I only found out today that we Brits are entitled to vote in the upcomimg Euro Elections, only you have to apply for the voting right unlike the comunal elections when they send you the voting card automatically
...just in case anyone's interested

Yes, I knew about this a while back. Our Rathaus informed us and sent us registration forms in which we had to answer a question about when we 'Abmelded' in England
We also voted here a few years ago in the local election.
What I don't know is if we have a vote back in England if there is a referendum.

voting in the referendum, if you are still registered in england, say with a postal vote (as I know some Brits are) then you should have a vote at the referendum, and local, national and euro elections that come up

Well, the form I filled in to vote here in the European election included a statement that I wouldn't be voting in England and I signed it. I think voting twice is illegal in any situation. I have got a postal vote in England for a general election but as it's only sent a week before the election it's unlikely to get there on time.

looks like you're right then, but as I understand it, certainly in england if you are a foreigner at least, you can vote in european elections in your local constituency

I told the bloke at the Rathaus that I had a proxy vote for UK general elections but he said that was no problem as long as I didn't vote twice, I actually voted in the last German general election after I was given all the voting papers by mistake ...of course I didn't notice the error until afterwards ...silly me :$

Another question. How do I vote? Do I put an X in one box or is it a 1,2,3.. vote where I can put candidates in order of preference.

You can find out about registering to vote as an overseas voter at:-
Look under "Register to vote" and "I am a British citizen living overseas".
I registered with local authority of my last UK address without any difficulty. There is a separate form for a postal vote. You need to get another Brit to countersign the forms.
I noticed that the http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk website said that they haven't decided if overseas voters will be allowed to vote in the referanda on the European Constitution...
I haven't figured out the German stuff yet - my Rathaus hasn't sent me anything except Steuerkarten.
Ciao JG
