Swapping driving licences

Which Amnt do you need to swap a UK driving licence for a german one?
I know you don't need to with the new EU licences but I was told it can cause confusion when you hire a car if the address on your licence isn't your german home address. The DVLC will not change it to a german address of course. Anyone know?

I have hired cars here on my UK licence no problem. Maybe they took the UK address as a permanent address I am not sure.

I am not changing mine unless I have to.

If you wish to change your licence, you need to get in touch with your local Führerscheinstelle.

They will let you know what else you need.

I have never had a problem hiring a car with my UK licence. It's not like they can prove it's not your home address as it's the only document you have with an address on it. OK, so your credit card billing address may be different but who cares.

Personally I like having a fraid and crumpled bit of pink paper in my wallet with no photo on it and the wrong address.

Unbelieveable, a thread about licences and nobody has mis-spelt it. We are getting clever, aren't we.

I think I swopped mine at the Strassenverkehrsamt, this was back in the bad old days when you had to do it.

Never had any trouble hiring cars with my UK licence. I always tell them the address on the licence is not correct and give them my current address in Germany.
