I have heard about this - one of my friends takes it. I will ask her for the name. I assume it was just prescribed by her Frauenarzt.

Hi and welcome to the Britboard by the way tongue.gif

Sorry, but I having serious doubts about whether Chick is a real person. Why would anyone want to put so many hormones into their body to stop their period? Are you not woried about the consequences?

Luke ,

my girlfriend has a medical condition which means she has to have fewer periods and take the pill for prolonged periods ... sometimes there is apparently no choice .

There is an alternative to the pill and that is a Mirena IUD or (IUS). It is made by Schering. It is filled with the hormone Gestagen and will last up to 5 years before needing to be changed. Although it is designed for contraception but it also successful in treating heavy periods without the need for the more drastic surgery - periods will stop!

@luke
only a man can say such a thing! wacko.gif imagine having cramps, headaches, feeling sick (and even physically throwing up), your digestive system going totally crazy, being very short tempered and hating yourself for it, crying about every little thing, feeling depressed etc etc and that every single month - not just for one day but for up to two weeks (PMS is also before the period) and then not forgetting the period itself!!! and then of course having to go to work while all that is going on.

@colonialgirl: do you mean that stick thing in the arm???
luke
Sorry chick, but there seems to have been an increase in imposters on this site recently. Maybe Bruce Forsyth can help!! So I hope you understand my sceptism when someone logs on as "chick" and starts talking about women's stuff.

My point was that a pill like that must do long term damage. Whether it's breast cancer, an increase in the likelihood of a miscarriage, or it may impact the baby itself. Who knows, eh? I think that drug companies don't really care about the long term consequences because it will be almost impossible to prove anyway.

Your situation sounds terrible. The only thing that may be worse could be being the man on the receiving end of your PMT. wink.gif
chick
ok Luke, i suppose i'll forgive you wink.gif
its not just my situation - i don't know how many women there are in the world . but that's a lot of situations biggrin.gif
you're right about the drug companies, but these days the amount of hormones in pills are really a minimum compared to the 60s when it was first introduced. But i hope that tis new pill is available cos then you only go through it 3 times a year which i can cope with!! its also not 'normal' for women to have so many periods cos before we got clever , women were a lot more pregnant, & so fewer periods - but that's changed with our society and standard of living.
my man on the receiving end is very understanding (got lucky there!!), but i do also make an effort to pull myself together even though its very hard sometimes wink.gif
i hope i've increased the male understanding of PMS a little bit biggrin.gif

Chick, talk to your Frauenartz about whether you can tricycle with your current pill. No, this has nothing to do with riding a three wheeler, it means you take three packets without a break then a normal weeks break and then on to another three packets. If you do this you will have to get a new prescription a bit sooner.

Hi Chick

The Mirena IUD is inserted into the Uterus by your Frauenarzt. It just sits there and does its stuff for up to 5 years before replacement. Of course it can be removed at any time by a Frauenarzt. The Krankenkasse will probably pay for it if there is a sound medical reason to have one apart from contraception.
