For any (non-asylum seeking) expats with a UNI diploma interested in taking German courses at the Volkshochschule, the registration number is 089-48006-6169. The address is Rosenheimer 5 but I think registrations/counseling sessions are done by appointment.

Please have the course numbers from http://www.mvhs.de/ ready when you call.

Registration for summer classes begins June 7th. Summer sessions run from July 19 - August 27. I THINK you need a placement test for Intermediate & Advanced courses. You have to pay 3 euros to take the test, also allot about an hour for the test itself.

I'm sure there was an easier or better way to find the above info but my German is rather limited so I went through the following boondogle:

I wanted to register for the Grundstuff 1 & 2 courses. I called the number listed 089-5442400. The woman couldn't speak English and I have limited, i.e. piss poor, German -hence the courses- but I gathered enough to learn that I needed a dift. number for the German programmes.

She gave me another number 089-48006-6169. This number got me to a pre-recorded message...all in rapid German (I had to get a buddy to translate)...listing course dates for the German programs and ending in another number...089-48006-6239 for more info or to register.

I called the new-new number to learn that they don't handle the German courses that I wanted. She refferred me to 089-5442400, which was the first number I called.

I called the number again, got another person that advised...to the best of my limited German... that since I had a University diploma and was not seeking asylum, I needed to contact another department. I finally got the right number included at the start of this post...089-48006-6169.

Im sure there was a much easier way to get this info...but I hope this helps someone else out...the bad news is that it took me a long time, the good news is that all but one person was quite nice and I actually learned some useful German...hmmm I wonder if there's a method to this madness... huh.gif

Ringing up for info on German courses, and they only speak German. Jeeeeez. Sounds like a nightmare mate, and you came out of it very well.
I did some online test for a German school (beginners level) and they sent me the resulkts of it, and what courses were suitable - but all in German. Regardless of whether ot not I could understand it, I deleted the mail straightaway out of principle. Another place I contacted also sent me details of their "beginners" lessons, but again all in German. Now dat don't say alot for a language school IMHO.
I might try lessons again now with all the info you have provided. Good on yer.
