Ok, just want to know if any other girls out there have trouble getting Tampax here?

When I first came over here, 8 or so years ago, I was able to get it in some of the big department stores. Then it suddenly disappeared, and since then I've been "importing" it from the UK, which is not exactly handy.

And I'm not even going to think about using horrible, horrible, nasty OB!!! mad.gif
andrea
I've never seen them here and must admit I had to resort to the nasty horrible OB. They're just not the same are they?
colonialgirl
I used to get them at Walmart but don't know if they still have them these days. Next time I am there I'll have a look.

It is the same with Weetabix we have run out and the shelves are bare at Walmart!!
sandra
REAL sell weetabix now! but haven't seen Tampax anywhere either..

Boys!! grow up!!! and get on with your work! wink.gif
louise
They're sold in all the surrounding countries just not Germany...no solutions other than importing I'm afraid. Although there's probably an online supplier???
pumpkin_pie
Yup, you can buy them online at www.tampaxcompak.com

Sorry Lilac, having been pregnant ever since I arrived in Germany, I have not had to worry about Tampax yet but I would like to thank you for raising the issue so that I don't shout at my husband for failing to bring some back next time i send him shopping for some. Craig, only REAL men would know about Tampax. wink.gif
Rebecca
Lilac Emily, I have never found Tampax in a German shop. I used to import them but eventually ran out and tried the German products. None, are as good in my experience but the best are OB applicator tampons or Schlecker's own brand 'AS' applicator tampons which are fine as long as you don't expect the absorbency to be the same as Tampax.

Wow! ohmy.gif

Didn't manage to check to see if there were any replies to my post yesterday, so was a bit shocked when I looked just now!

Certainly is impressive how much the guys on this board know about tampons. Wouldn't have even dared to raise the subject on the other board!

Don't understand why (as someone pointed out) you can get Tampax in every country surrounding Germany, but not in Germany itself. Is it something to do with protecting own-brand stuff?
But it does explain why those nasty (can hardly bring myself to use the words) sanitary towels are so popular here.

If anyone does ever find real Tampax tampons here, I'd like to know about it - but in the mean time, I guess I'll have to keep on importing them from the UK.

Thanks for all your replies!

Emily

PS Think I'll be giving the Weetabix a miss for a while... wink.gif

I personally hate applicators. I wash my hands before and after using a tampon anyway. And I hate the loads of foil and plastic for the bins. But most I hate is that Tampax are fluffy and I personally prefer to get out what I've put in and not a opened cotton roll :$ tongue.gif
lilac_enigma
@Hannah -

"loads of foil and plastic " ? as far as I can see there's only a bit of cardboard, but maybe there's different types. You can get Tampax without applicators as well, but the bit about being "too fluffy" I guess is just personal preference!! But, as Rebecca pointed out - Tampax have much higher absorbency than any other brand of tampon, and that's certainly high on my list of priorites when it comes to tampons!
colonialgirl
Walmart doesn't seem to stock tampax anymore just OB - so much for choice!

For those still interested... I got my weetabix at Extra biggrin.gif

Hi Emily,

I was refering to Rebecca's post. Sorry, I was to lazy to quote (still no quote button but I gave up to beg for it) wink.gif smile.gif

I don't know how many liters you expect a tampon to hold. But from time to time I change mine and had no problems yet with OB or other brands. Maybe you tried the wrong sizes wink.gif biggrin.gif
Purple Muffin
I have been using OB for so long I don't think I can remember how good tampax are. tongue.gif

The reason they don't sell them is that it would be to much of a luxury for us and too much choice for the Germans. It is the same thing with any kind of diet drink apart from diet coke and sometimes diet fanta and sprite. We don't want to be spoiled now do we??? I could go on and on about the things you can't get here...
Rebecca
QUOTE (Hannah)
Maybe you tried the wrong sizes

If Tampax come out white and fluffy maybe you used the wrong size too!

I can't believe this thread is still running. Count yourself lucky if you don't need the extra absorbency offered by Tampax.
Hannah
The way tampax is made is different to o.b for example, so this is why they are softer, has nothing to do with the size.

Rebecca, i did not want to offend you or anything. There are real extra extra extra bigger and strong tampons by different brands here in Germany available. I myself just would try them instead of whining all time that i cant get tampax if there are none wink.gif
Rebecca
Honestly, I think I have tried them all but now I have found a better Frauenartz and it's no longer a problem, thanks.

@hannah

I actually thought this was one of the great things that the britboard was for - "whining" about all the things which we can't get in Germany... tongue.gif

Well Girls,

Tampax in Germany used to be rather different to the Tampax you
know and love in u.k. - the Applicators were Blue not white
and the were wrapped in Cellophane not paper, I think they
were being made under licence by V.P. Schickedanz AG.
then Procter and Gamble took them over and unified things
until about 6 years ago when they took Tampax off the German
market all together, I don't know why exactly but I suspect
it's because most German women seem to prefer digital tampons
probably because of the price difference and secondly because
of the environmental issue (although with biodegradable applicators
it's not much of an argument) My German wife used to be completely
phased by them until I persuaded her to try them, after she got used
to them she thought they were great, mainly because they expand length
and width ways unlike OB's which don't expand lengthways.
I too had to buy large quantities of Tampax when ever I visited
UK, I did manage to get a large quantity of old stock Tampax super
comfort plus (with the rounded tip) a while ago on E-Bay and strangely
the German Super applicator is the same size as UK regular, although
according to the pack the absorbency is the same for both 9-12g ???
So if any of you ladies are looking for some cheap Tampax I can deliver !
just drop me an E-Mail ! biggrin.gif

Speechless at the last post!
