I heard that rules & regs for building a carport on your property are a little different from place to place, but what are the general rules? How close to neighbours property/buildings/etc. can it be?

I would have thought the best place to get the correct information about carport rules and regs would be the Bauamt.

I have heard somewhere that there is a rainwaterwastewater tax you have to pay if you pave your carport so that the rain runs into a drain instead of running to ground.

We built a carport last year, your best bet … if your not building it yourself that is, is to ask the builder who's building it for advice, but here are the main points I remember.

If it’s longer than 9 metres you will need planning permission. DO register the planned construction at the Bauamt, even if you don’t have to, as this will save you grief later if a neighbour complains.

Plan for the run off water to drain via drainage pipe into/under the garden.
