There is nothing like planning ahead so here goes rolleyes.gif

My husband has a job in Sankt Augustin which starts in 18 months and I was wondering if anyone knows the area and can give me a guide to which areas in or around Sankt Augustin I should be looking to move to. I have a 13 year old daughter who is currently attending a Gymnasium in Germany so I also need to think about a school location for her.

Just a little background of where Im from. My daughter and I left the UK 3 years ago to live with my (now) husband near M-gladbach. We lived there for 6 months before having to move to Strasbourg, France on the German boarder by Kehl and have been here now for the last 2 1/2 years.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Looks nice, quite near Bonn, here is a site...only in German but maybe you can use one of the free web translators.

Sankt Augustin

good luck with your move

I live down the road from there and it's a nice place, unfortunately even though I live quite close I have no idea about the nitty gritty of living there ie schools etc.

My daughter goes to, in my opinion, a good gymnasium where we live and I suppose there is the option of your husband commuting to work from this area (about 20 mins.).

I'll ask wifey if she knows anything about the schooling etc from her mates and get back to you.
corinne
Thank you both for you quick replys.

Sue, I will get the hubby and daughter to check out the site for me as, oh what shame, my german is not up to it. :$

Mandrax, any info your wife can get on schools will be greatfully recieved. I really dont know enough about the area so I am guessing that the school may play a leading part on where we end up. The hubby does not mind travaling to work but withing reason.

I live near Bonn. Sankt Augustin is a modern suburby sort of place between Bonn and Siegburg. Housing is mostly a mixture of apartment blocks and typical German Dopplehäuser. It is on the tram line 66 which runs from Siegburg through Sankt Augutin through Bonn and on to Königswinter and Bad Honnef. Its also well connected to Köln by the autobahn. It has a reasonably good shopping centre(by German standarda) with a huge supermarket. I have heard the Gymnasium in Siegburg has a fairly good reputation. To find out more about schools go to the NRW website, I cant remember the exact address but put in a search for nrw bildungsportal and you will get there.

Let me know if you do move over this way and need local knowledge.
corinne
Thanks Rebecca, I will certainly let you know when we finally make the move as Im sure I am going to be needing the local knowledge. Very nice of you to offer.

I have been in the general area once, which was to visit the hubbys mum who lives in bad honnef. Ending up moving into the same area where she lives is some coincidence. Hell, she doesnt even know I have married her son yet. ohmy.gif
