Working With Germans

getting on the high horse

In general here I think its not bad at all to work with Germans, when its a birthday they bring in cake, theres a sense of togetherness that never really existed when I worked in the UK. The workers rights are great etc...but one thing really f##ks me off.
Why is it when you make a mistake, they get on their high horse about everything. I just had a collegue, a normally totally calm guy run over to me, stand about an inch from my face saying,; " Weiss du was du FALSCH gamacht hast? mein gott dass ist Komplett FALASCH!" " Weiss du nicht wie dass geht?". Which he knows perfectly well that I can do it blinded I just nade a simple error from having too much to do and mixed something up. He then proceeded to inform my detail by detail like I was some stupid little school boy how to do it CORRECTLY. I mean , i'm sorry i'm English, and when someone makes a simple mistake, i stay calm, and explain to them politley about how it can be fixed or whatever...but the Germans LOVE to get on their high horse and TELL YOU EXCATLY HOW THEY WOULD DO IT.
Anyone else experinced this?

yes i have and to add to that my workmate puts notes on things reminding people what to do after they made a mistake or forgot something once.

for example:
on the cupboard where the toner for laser printers is a note "when taking the last toner please order new".
on a computer is "dont forget to start Xyz program"
i rip them off and tell him we are not in kindergarten!!
Hannah
so Bully, when you ripped that note off "order new toner when it's empty" - when you see it's empty, do you order new one?

i have to blame myself putting notes on things like the Fax. mine says "NIEMALS den ABWESEND-Knopf drücken, sonst können wir keine Faxe empfangen" (dont ever push the absent-button or we can't get Faxes).

You know why I do this? Because I am pissed off that some ppl are just so stupid and push that thing and I get 10 missed calls in the morning where ppl ask if our Fax was "kaputt" tongue.gif

yes i do order new toner, the thing is if it happens once a year that someone forgets then why the hassle of a note, or if xyz program is not started.
now if someone wants Recordable CD's or even diskettes they have to sing them out so HE knows who last took out these items...
Hannah
they sing in your company ... nice one tongue.gif
