Fasching - What's That All About?

I just don't get it. There's no theme. And it lasts for a quarter of the year...

me neither ... my kids like dressing up though , so they enjoy it ..

Would someone please explain the origins of the cutting-the-tie-off tradition please.
I don't get that either.

I think Fasching is a good excuse for kids to dress up and go to parties (my daughter is 15 months and she has three faching parties to go to), but full grown adults? What the hell is that all about?

as far as I know it has something to do with your best pal ... something (hopefully) long and dangly in your trousers ... being cut off by emancipated (drunk) Weibe ...

Was feeling a bit depressed so went on the rampage with a scissors this afternoon and it certainly cheered me up.

after 13 years in Frankfurt I don't have any ties left

have not got a tie on today and i am keeping my hands in my pockets too... :$

Its all about "getting away with it". Basically its a day when women have a free reign to be silly and cutting a tie has become a tradition, laces have been known to go as well as braces. complaining or resisting is considered "bad form", I have never ever been accosted by a woman on this day but then again i do have bad form

I think it's simply the overly controlling German government's way of telling it's voters/citizens that they can have fun now. Or am I being too synical
