Anyone live near or know the place, I've been offered a job there, but it looked a shithole yesterday to be honest.

Hi,
I am French, 23 years old and now working since 3 weeks in Aschaffenburg, in english. I have not much German skills !!!
I do not know many people here so we can meet one evening.
My boyfriend is German, that is the reason why I am here, we met in Canada as we studied there for one year. But he is living at the moment near Berlin for at least few months more.
Let me know,
Lisa
tbh I don't think it's that bad ...I have a mate who lives just outside Aschaffenburg (Großostheim) and
I've spent quite a bit of time there, I could quite happily live there but I guess it depends on what your
priorities are I suppose but I cetainly wouldn't call it a shithole

Hallo!
Rob and I lived close to there for a while - Babenhausen - has a great mall and its pretty big - well compared to Babenhausen.
It depends, if you are a party animal well...then is probably the wrong place.
But its a nice town and like I said one of the few places in Germany that actually has a REAL MALL!

I was disappointed when I went to Aschaffenburg as I had heard it was pretty but I thought it was nothing special - I was looking at it from a tourist perspective though. No idea what it would be like to live there !
Its is not too far from FFM - if you could face the A3 in a morning you could maybe even commute at a pinch ???

Richard,
I work in AB, but could never live there.
Although part of the Rhine-Main Area, the folk here identify more with rural Bavaria. Many also seem to have a stuck-up we-bavarians-are-so-much-better attitude towards their hessian neighbours, and would rather travel the 350km to "their" capital of Munich instead of the 40km to Frankfurt. In fact, the only time they would really bother going to Frankfurt is on the Bavaria-only Bank-holidays.

They also listen to Bavarian Radio, watch Bavarian TV, and say "Gruß Gott" instead of Guten Tag in greeting... I take it they are desperately trying to point out that they are Bavarian, despite the fact that most Bavarians consider the Franken to be Hessian.

The A3 Kleinostheim anschlussstelle last exit for Bavarians before they enter enemy territory, I know the area reasonbly well considering that I used to deliver to Hosbach, Aschaffenburg-Nilkheim, Sulzbach am Main, Obernburg, Schollkrippen, Stockstadt and Kleinostheim, I've gotta admit that I have always found the natives friendly.

Those search results are only helpful to a point. Firstly tell us what you are looking for in a place and its easier to tell you if it suits you.
I havent lived there personally but the wife and her family come from there so I know a thing or two.
AB is famous for one thing - "stau zwischen Achaffenburg Ot and Aschaffenburg West" every Saturday in holiday periods and other times too. My Brother in law lives in Mainaschaff and complains that now the A3 is so loud he no longers enjoys sitting on the balcony - its too loud and getting worse.
If you are a big city person being closer to Frankfurt may be an option as the commute to AB will be relatively easy given that most people will e going in the opposite direction.
As for the town and area itself, if you dont want a big city, it'll have everything you need, even a specialist whisky shop, and you only go to F for concerts and big exibitions.

I have been to Aschaffenburg a couple of times when I had to be there for work. I have spent some time in the evenings there, and I had a good impression of the town (or should I say city?). I'm sure it's a lot different when you live there, but I think it's not a bad place to live at all.

The only time I've ever spent in Aschaffenburg was standed on the side of the road on Autobahn 3 with a busted steaming radiator waiting for my car to be towed by ADAC. But I would love to see the car museum there. I bet it's interesting.

The location has good communications as I used to visit a distribution centre there. Its a good location and will have a more local feel than Frankfurt. I would live in Aschaffenburg rather than Frankfurt unless you use the airport regulary.
and its not in Germany

I work there myself. The people who live here rarely fail to remind me that it was officially granted the title of happiest town in germany. That is to say the quality of live and satisfaction there was polled as being higher than anywhere else in Germany.
The river and the castle provide a wonderful place to sit with a bottle of sekt and a picnic on any sunny day, the near by hills are a wonderful place to walk, and the river between AB and Hanau is an almost perfect cycle route, or on as far as Frankfurt if you feel fit.
The altstadt is a nice area and a good example of german old town areas and you are far enough into Bavaria here to enjoy the Bavarian beers and cuisines. I have also come accross a lovely dedicated wine store and an even more lovely dedicated cheese store, and thats with the minimum of wandering.
Being in Bavaria it has slightly more holidays than near by frankfurt which is in Hessen.
The ICE between frankfurt and munich stops there so you are well served by the rail network. Normal DB Express trains also stop there in several directions.
All in all I cant fault it.
