Hello, everyone! I am due to give birth in the Fall and I am starting to look at various kliniks to decide where to give birth. So far, Geisenhofer appealed to me the most. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with the klinik? Maybe someone can suggest a doctor?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Nastya,
I had my son at the Geisenhofer in Feb. 2005 and even though I was there for a week following the birth, I could not have asked for better care. The nurses and midwifes are truly caring, especially Brenda from South Africa (especially if you want to hand over any old English magazines).
Food's good and the facilities are all up to date (although no water births). Depending on your insurance, or if you are willing to pay for the upgrade, I would opt for a single room (although I still had to share a bathroom with the room next door).
My son was in the ICU and the nurses there were without a doubt helpful, supportive and informative.
My OB/GYN is Dr. Silke Dabelstein (private patients only) who is affiliated with the clinic. She has an excellent command of English and was there at the birth, especially important as not all the midwives speak English. She inspired me with a lot of confidence. Details as follow:
Promenadeplatz 12, 80333 Munich (next to the Bayerischerhof Hotel)
Tel: 089 2969 71
Good luck!

Hams, thank you for your feedback. Do you happen to know how much is it to upgrade to the single room if I don't have private insurance? I definitely would like the option. Also, did you get epidural there? It is my whole other question, since I am still two-sided on that. Thank you!

Hi Nastya,
Congratulations
I have emailed in the past with both the Geisenhofer Klinik and a clinic in
Starnberg. Both allow upgrades to private rooms, you should make sure to arrange it first. The quote I got for Geisenhofer was an extra 75€ a night and the Wolfartklinik quoted about the same.

Do you not have a steady gyn yet? Just a question. My doc had beds at the Haasklinik where I had my kids and quick hopped over from his office when they were being born (not for hours, just for the last, decisive phase). Unfortunately, the clinic has closed down since.
I suggest finding out from the Geisenhofer Klinik which gyns have beds there (Belegbetten) and getting in touch with them.
I only went to the Geisenhofer Klinik once as a walk-in emergency and was treated quickly, competently and with state of the art care.

Yes, I do have a steady gyn. But as far as I understood here your gyn is not the doctor who is responsible for you at the klinik and they don't go in with you when you give birth. I have my next appointment with my gyn this week and I am going to double check on the whole procedure but that was my impression so far. Correct me if I am wrong, since I am still figuring out the whole thing here.

Sorry, no idea about the upgrade cost if not private. Although, even if you are private, it depends on the company and the insurance coverage taken out.
As for epidurals, they do offer them, but my labour was so fast, two hours (too much information :-)), that I didn't get a chance for any pain relief. As for whether you should have one or not, I think you've just got to see what happens, but discuss it thoroughly (pros and cons) with your doctor.

The Geisenhofer has doctors that are affiliated with the clinic and who will then attend births (not sure if this is dependent on insurance). Your best bet is to get a list of doctors from the Klinik and see if any take state insurance.

Hi Nastya,
My wife gave birth to our daughter almost 3 weeks ago now in the Geisenhofer Klinik.
We can't find a thing to fault really,
The staff were top notch and the food was better than I was eating at home ( I would plan to arrive at lunch time to get a proper feed!).
Like other birthing hospitals/kliniks in Munich, it is very busy ( I read somewhere they average 7 births a day).
My wife went into labour at about 9pm and we were at the Klinik just after 10.
At about 2.30 she was given an epidural and the midwife bought in a bed for me which meant we both got a couple of hours sleep. Well at least me anyway.
For us it was a godsend. But before you go into labour make sure you have read and understood all the documentation that goes with it.
We had heard horror stories about Mothers-to-be screaming in pain while the Doctor calmly explained all the dangers involved.
Half an hour at least of poor Mum yelling `Just give me the friggen thing!´
My wife had a long labour and said afterwards she would not have done without it.
At 10am the next day, we finally had our little girl.
We also chose to get a private room after a couple of days of shareing with another Mum and that was a grand investment.
It did cost us €100 per day but we had a double room to ourselves.
Dr Röhrig delivered our girl. He not only speaks English but has a sense of humour also.
Tell your husband to be with you, it is an awsome experience.
Best of luck.

Yes, Emily Jean
When she was delivered my wife asked what she was (we didn't know the sex), the Doctor replied that we had a little Kiwi.
We had to ask him again before he said a Kiwi girl.

@SC-- What a wonderful contribution to this thread from a new father who can be proud beyond words of his lovely new daughter and his brave, beautiful wife. Childbirth is indeed an amazing experience. And babies

Nastya--I delivered both of my babies at the Geisenhofer, and overall, I was very pleased with the caring treatment I received. My doc's name was Wilfred Teicher. His practice is on Lindwurmstr. (near
Goetheplatz), and I can say that he is one of the most extraordinary people I have ever had the good fortune to meet. His English is super--I recommend him without hesitation. PM me if you have any other questions or need more info. All the best...

Privyet Nastya,
I had both of my daughters in Geisenhofer. I recommend it!
Poka!
Hi Nastya,
I am also due to deliver in the fall. Just went to an information evening at Geisenhofer Klinik. You should go. It is twice a month and you can sign up at their web site or by phone.
I don't have a Belegarzt (one that is affiliated with this clinic), but that is no problem. All you have to do is go to Geisenhofer when you are between 30 and 32 weeks pregnant for a check up and so they get to know you.
Good luck with your pregnancy and birth!!

I never had a child (thank god for that!) but I did have to have some treatments at Geisenhofer Klinic, and was very happy with the treatment there and the staff- I work with a few docs that are connected to the Klinic- and I can say- if you ever need surgery get Dr. Mahr- he leaves hardly any scars! ( that comes from a nurse that used to work there and me!).
When I was trying to figure out where to deliver, I found
this site. It's got personal reviews of all the clinics in Munich... some are old but the reports are pretty interesting to read.
All in German, though.

Hi,
I didn´t give birth there but a friend of mine did, and she almost ended up with a handicapped child because her caesarean was delayed for over 12 hours. This did not have to do with the hospital itself- it very much depends on who you doctor is ( because it´s a Belegarzt-System and every doctor comes in only for his or her patients). My friend´s doctor just didn´t feel like getting up at night ( shocking, but it was like this!).
The problem with these Belegarzt-Systems here is, as a midwife told me, that there is usually no emergency doctor in place, but they call "your" Belegarzt when you enter the hospital. In urgent cases this might sometimes be too late or if the doctor doesn´t hurry enough. She recommended the Frauenklinik vom roten Kreuz ( "Taxisklinik"). She said in terms of luxury of course it´s not like Geisenhofer, but it´s safer for the child and for the mum as well. It is said to have the best statistics and the lowest death rate of mums and babies. Of course, that´s not a thing one wishes to hear about before giving birth, but from my experience I would say safety should always come first.
All the best!

Ok, I know this thread is old, but I hope somebody reads it

. My doctor delivers at the Geisenhofer, so I did not search for clinics and I was just going to go there. However my Natural Birthing teacher told me that the Geisenhofer has a high rate of giving epidurals to FTMs (first time moms) and I am the weird one that has decided that does not want to have an epidural or a painkiller. Do they just put you the thing even if you said no, I do not want it?. If that is true, which other clinic do you recommend? I was thinking in the Dritten Order, but then I read (well translated) some reviews and it did not seem that good. I know that having a home birth will be better if I want it as natural as possible, but since is the first time, we thought that a clinic will be safer in case something unexpected happens and seems that the Dritten Order was not that good in the "unexpected part" (at least from the reviews I read/translated
here.
Many thanks in advance

I have never given birth at the Geisenhofer, but had other treatment there, and found them to be the utmost of professional, and totally listened to me about my nerves and scares that I had.
Talk, open your mouth and talk to your doctor about your wishes! Only they can help you.

Me. Frist time mom.
They asked me at Geisenhofer "PDA?".
I said no and so they didn't give me.
