No, just knickers 4 sizes too small. Keeps 'em on in case of unexpected blast.
Sin
Oh! ohmy.gif Is that a 5 ton bomb in your trousers or are you just pleased to see me?
zard
Just tried to pick up the tram at Lautensackstr maybe 20 minutes ago and was told nothing was running due to the Bombenfund and the streets were also closed. Any new updates?
coolerking
the cars and trams are running in landbergerstr so must be over
Inflatablewoman
What a dull ending, I was hoping for at least a little boom. sad.gif
iain
boom
UrbanAngel
Yup, my chastity belt's still secure, thanks for asking.
zard
Does anyone know if the trams are running again? I'd like to try and run my errand again but don't want to leave the office if I'll just have to come back or wait a long time... I need to go from Lautensackstr. to Schrenkstr.

edit--I did look at the MVV site but didn't see any info

second edit--just found the info on Stornomeldungen on the muenchen.de homepage. Looks like the trams should be running now.

Yup, my chastity belt's still secure, thanks for asking.

But is your chastity?
Jimbo
You'd only require a much smaller weapon to destroy that, Showem.
Showem
Or in my case, a much larger.
benpanter
Yes, lager does tend to loosen those chastity belts doesn't it?

Sin
That's be me biggrin.gif
UrbanAngel
I just got an e-mail saying that the bomb was disposed of successfully and that all public transportation is running again, and all roads have been re-opened.
marvin
i just saw the bomb. took some good photos too. will post them in a few days. it was definatly not a five ton one. looked quite small actually.
Austrami
...well if the wife can't tell the difference between 250 kilos and 5 tons, then that would explain why she married me... biggrin.gif

Much ado about nothing. Bomb no go boom. The traffic backup wasn't even that bad.

@RobbeinMunich they are entschärfing it, i.e. disposing of it, afaik they haven't said -how- exactly

Defuse means entschärfen
Dispose means beseitigen

UrbanAngel
Thanks, I asked in the other thread how you'd translate entschärfen and was told 'dispose', now I know! They -defused- the bomb, there we go smile.gif My bomb vocab isn't that great wink.gif I still remember a classic phrase from learning German in the 2nd yr at school - es gibt ein Bombenalarm! For some reason that turned into our motto, as well as 'Umgebung'.
garibaldi
Ok UA,
I'm Irish. Know a bit about the old bomb y'know.

thanks yanks...i just had the afternoon off and what a scorcher it was too- am pink as a lobster. our office was evacuated with about 30 mins notice..i heard about it on the radio and when i went to see what was happening it turned out to be true... as the whole area around us is building sites i can only wait in expectation for some more hours off..

Theres a picture up on the police website...

...yep, and it's the same guy who I posted a photo of for the previous bomb disposal in February - wearing the same blue overalls by the look of it too. Pretty cool job he's got though.

Interesting that it was an American bomb. Not so much a bang, as a puff...

pity, if it had been a brit one I would asked if we can have it back please !

According to today's AZ, Günter Hanft disarms around 20 WWII bombs throughout Oberbayern every year, i.e. approximately one per fortnight. The rest of the time he's a fireman.

The bombs are almost never detonated. Rather, the detonator is removed and then the bomb can be safely carried away. Detonator removal usually takes about ten minutes. Or 20 minutes if it's badly corroded.

Also according to the AZ, around 8,000 tonnes of bombs were dropped on Munich during WWII. Assuming an average weight of 250kg per bomb, that makes a total of 32,000 bombs dropped.

Around 10% of the bombs dropped were duds. That makes about 3,200 that landed without exploding. Most of the duds were cleared up within weeks of being dropped. But the AZ reckons around 100 undiscovered UXBs are still buried beneath Munich.

As a content deleted(and I think the only) content deleted on Toytown I find that pretty offensive, by the way the correct procedure is to render safe the fuse system then steam out the explosive into a pit which is then doused in deisel, not petrol!, and burnt off safely. Not the best idea in a town or city as the steaming process gives off toxic gas and if the steam temperature is not right it can cause a bit of a drama,

So be worried if you live or work in a building built since 1945. wink.gif
Allershausen
So about 80% of Munich then!
