I was just wondering if anyone is interested? I used to climb a lot at home, and I am missing it a lot! But I haven't been in awhile, so this could be for everyone, beginners, experts...another fabulous way for us crazy kids to get together and try new things...

There is a group of TT guys who go down to Thalkirchen regularly. Search climbing and you'll find the thread.I haven't been with these guys yet, but have been down to Thalkirchen Climbing Centre with other friends quite a few times and it is suberb. A great range from trivial to those that i am convinced you require extra limbs and the subtlety of a snake to be able to do. They have a lot of outside routes as well, which are great now that Summer has arrived. If you plan on climbing there a lot it makes sense to join the DAV (German Alpine Assoc) and buy a yearly card. This really brings the cost down. Otherwise it is about €12 a time.

There are some nice outdoor routes down at Kochlsee past the Hydro-Elec Powerstation. Not to far away, but I am not sure about using public Transport to get there. I think you need a car really. There is supposed to be some bouldering a bikes ride away South down the side of the Isar, but I have yet to find it.
I will be dusting off the harness again this year and heading out with a very mixed group (English, American, Irish, beginners to reasonabley experienced. Everyone else welcome. Shoes and Harness pretty much required (go buy from Karstadt Sport at Theriesenwiese.-they are closing down and have a good sale on). Ropes, clips we have already.

Do a search. There have been several threads on this topic before.

There is a group of English-speaking people who attend Thalkirchen on Tuesday evenings.
I'll be there around 8pm this Tuesday. Every new person is more than welcome.

I'm looking for someone who wants to go at least once a week, doesn't matter where, in- or out-door. I ususally go with my girlfriend but shes quite busy a lot of the time and I want to find another body...someone who is trying out 6-6+ and looking to break the old barrier but isn't hugely experienced would be good, to match my own level, and then we could help each other develop and ting...I have rope and the usual bits and pieces...pm if anyone wants to do an after-work or weekend once a week.

ta muchly.

Maybe i posted the above too early on a monday morning...

6-6+ is about where I left off, but that was a few years ago now. I would be interested in trying out though. Maybe I will "find my legs" relatively quickly...

Not keen on the Thalkirchen pricing though and not gonna get a DAV card this year. Know anywhere cheaper?

Just started climbing myself and would like to meet up with others in-doors as well as out-doors. Is there still a group going, or does anyone of you meet up?

Hi,

Can anyone provide further information on bouldering in Kochelsee? I'll be visiting Munich from the 4th to the 9th of July before a conference and would love to do some outdoor bouldering.

So far I know that I can catch a train from Munich to Kochel Am See, then I walk for an hour around the lake until I find the boulders. If anyone can provide more detailed directions that would be great. Any information on routes, grades, etc would also be helpful.

Also does anyone want to meet up for a bit of climbing while I'm visiting? I'm aiming to try out the indoor gym at Thalkirchen at least once while I'm in Munich.

Thanks,
Jim

your best bet is to get the kochel guidebook, or at least browse it in Schuster (big sports store at Marienplatz) or one of the other sports shops. It's a bit complicated to find the climbs/boulders at Kochel as they are spread out over a wide area. i've not bouldered there before, but there is some mighty fine climbing those hills!

There are some people who climb regularly at Thalkirchen on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays (i used to be one of them until my newborn arrived 6 weeks ago). Sign onto the climbmunich yahoo group for the email updates.

Have fun!

Thanks, much appreciated. I'll definitely check out the guide in Schuster.
