Just curious to know if any there are any TT bikers (the forum, not the IOM event:) on here and if so do you have any rideouts planned ?
Grinner
Would you beleive that if you type the word Motorcycle into the search box, you get This.
SmugLarz
doh, remind me not to go online when I'm hungover from the previous night rolleyes.gif

Cheers...
Johnny English
Another biker is always welcome! What do you ride? I am out in the sticks Landsberg way, but we have been known to get together for a ride and a curry round this way. I am usually up for a blast assuming I have a pass from the wife!

Wanted to post a couple of pictures and this seemed like the perfect place. Just came back from Mellrichstadt after visiting my folks on a bike tour they're doing. The trip was organised by Rob & Sandra of Freedomtouring.co.uk. I was driving so had to keep a relatively low profile 'cause they were all taking the piss. Here's a few bike shots...

This was the hotel owners bike. That sidecar has two seats in it.

Honda Goldwing ohne gubbins.

My dads Harley.

Gone are the days when a good old-fashioned map would suffice.

Is that a car tyre?

The organisers are all hotelliers. They have a network of biker-friendly hotels, mostly in Austria. See www.motorrad-hotel.com for more info on what they do.

The folks heading off.

This was my ride for the weekend.

Johnny English
Very nice Keydeck. Just wondering where is the construction worker, the cowboy, the red indian and the policeman?
Keydeck
Well you and your mates must not have been invited.

Here's some more hardware for you...

What do you ride?

Normally I ride a Triumph Tiger (I've been the one of the moderators of the Tiger group on yahoo for a few years now) , unfortunately it's sat in garage in the UK with a broken gearbox, so atm I'm tooling round on a rusty 15 yr old Suzuki DR800 Single. (Which in itself is a complete box of frogs)

Took me 22 hrs hours to ride out here t'other week (when it was still snowing and horrible), but 6 of those were due to a broken chain just south of Brussels (and the ensuing recovery to a local garage and a 2 hr kip on the mechanics floor whislt he finished lunch ohmy.gif , still had to be done...

So if the rusty ole shed holds up I'd be up for hoon sometime (curry sounds nice too smile.gif

And as for GPS, best thing since sliced bread, I've had one on my bike for about 4 years now...how else would one find ones way straight to the good bars ?
jono
Anybody up for a rideout on Sunday ?

Finally got delivery of my new bike, but nobby-no-biker mates in Munich !

Jono
Yeti
What did you get ?

Too busy this Sunday but I'll be reviving the bike curry thread next week or the week after.
jono
Hi,

No worries, certainly up for a spin and a curry.

Triumph Sprint ST - probably go for a gentle trip as she needs to be run in anyway.

Jono
Jeeves
This man has taste.
Yeah go easy at first but not for too long wink.gif
I'm not sure that I'll be in a fit state to head out tomorrow.
Biking_Bud
Would have come out with you Jono but I've now moved back to Bath. Sham,e really as a ride around the Alps would have been good this weekend.

Excellent choice is it a 1050 or a 955? I have a Sprint RS. Are you aware of the Tridays trip to Neukirchen at the end of Aug?

See link:
Tridays

jono
Thanks for the tip on the TRIdays , I'll check it out.

Its the 1050 , first 'sensible' bike after many sportbikes.

Pluses
Nice Engine , with more character than a 4 but not as brutal as my old MilleR
Great Burble on the overrun - although sports pipes are looking like a must
Good on variable quality, bumpy roads

Minuses
Front Too Soft - needs new internals/valves progressive springs (argh...)
ABS needs to be switchable, but soft front compromises full on braking anyhow, with a better front end might become an issue - did asksif it was switchable told it was , but it transpires it isn't.
Seat shape prevents hanging off - need to adapt my riding style , or get a different seat.
jono
Anyone up for a Spin and Lunch somewhere tomorrow ?

Jono
Johnny English
You lost me a bit at the mention of a 'gentle trip'!
jono
I dont know what came over me!

Just to reassure you here is me having another gentle trip racing at Cadwell Park.

jono
Anyone for a spin and Lunch somewhere this Sunday (26th?)

Jono
Johnny English
I was riding down in Austria at the weekend. Anyone else notice it had been raining?

Jeeves
Aye, it was bad enough on-road. Glad of the new(ish) tyres I was.
jono
Anybody up for a rideout this weekend ? - looks like weather will be OK for once !

Jono
Johnny English
According to weather forecast tomorrow looks safer than Sunday. Dunno if I can get a pass from 'er indoors and also going to tedious BBQ tomorrow evening. But up for suggestions??
Yeti
I'm off to watch the brave but pale and hopeless paddies get hammered by the tanned and systematic locals in Stuttgart so no go this weekend.

Getting new tyres on Monday though so I need to wear off the factory finish off them soon. Anybody got time next weekend ?
stray bird
I have time! where to go?
jono
OK, for thise who can this Sunday. I'll be leaving from the Hauptbahnhof at 10.30 ish. Parking in the motorcycle bay on the Hertje side near the main enterance. Red Sprint ST.

Not sure of the route (head for the lakes and thebig pointy things in the distance) I'll bring a map and we can have a coffee to pick something. Aiming to be back early evening ish.

I'm also up for next weekend so I think Yeti is in , anyone else?

Just got back from a wee trip to run my new bike in. The bike only had 600kms on the clock so this added an extra 3,000 this week.

Day 1.
Munich to Prague. I didn't like Prague at all despite my mate saying it is great in advance. Very commercial and just full of romantic couples having dinner, or street hawkers
trying to get you in to see dwarf sex. Maybe was worse 'cos it was a Sunday evening but I will not be rushing back.

Johnny English
Day 2.
Prague to Krakow. I liked Krakow quite a lot. Got to bed 5am which is not ideal for this kinda trip. But it's a nice town.

Johnny English
Day 3.

Krakow to Lviv via Auschwitz. This was a badly planned day frankly. 4 hours sleep and a hangover but on the road by 10am. Auschwitz is West from Krakow and we really wanted to be heading East. This meant we were not back in Krakow area until 3pm. The Ukranian border at 8pm was a nightmare - huge queues and nasty border guards. Took 2 hours to ge through, and then another 2 hours to travel around 70km in the dark on 3rd world road into Lviv. The Ukranians are also not the most friendly and welcoming I have ever met. Fags are 50p a pack and fuel is 40p a litre, but not cheap enough to make me wanna stay long.

Johnny English
Day 4.

Lviv to Kosice
Late start and on the road at 12 for Lviv to the Polish border, but taking the southerly route through the Ukraine. Mostly a new road, but dangerous 'cos we saw quite a few smash ups. It's a quick road but you still get slow cars and tractors pulling into your path. Make sure you have Ukranian money as some gas stations do not take cards or €uros and you must pay in advance. We got ripped off at one. Kosice in Eastern Slovakia is the 2nd largest town in Slovakia. We loved it - friendly people, nice bars and my favourite stop on the trip. Another late night.

Johnny English
Day 5

Kosice to Bratislava. These are easy roads but we were knackered by now due to lack of sleep and too many miles. Bratislava is a very smart town indeed. We seemed to have picked a quiet night for going out so were tucked up in bed by 5am thankfully. I like Bratislava - which pretty much means I reckon Slovakia is a great destination!!

Johnny English
Day 6

Bratislava to Munich. This is a long ride but the roads are perfect. But as I was riding an Enduro style bike it means a realistic top speed of 130kph and a sore arse.

Johnny English
Personally I think we pretty much screwed up on this trip. We had no GPS so maybe overcooked how far we could/should go in a day. We did not leave enough free time to walk the towns, or catch up on sleep. A more sensible route in a week would have been to skip the Ukraine, and go direct from Krakow to Slovakia. Also my bike is NOT prepared for long hauls like this, so I need to make some upgrades. But...it's always nice to see new places and burn some tread on the bikes.

Ralf
That sure looks like a fun trip, and enduros are the best.
Johnny English
Am just ordering a touring windshield and awaiting bigger tanks from a supplier in Australia - so hopefully will crack the issues that make the bike suck on this type of trip. Plus change of seat.
Jeeves
JE's new TV series: Long Way with a Hangover ?
I'm impressed at the sheer distance in those conditions.
astro_rabbit
So , is anyone going to organise a ride out, or what
Ralf
As one of TT's longstanding members and a capable motorcyclists with local know-how, I would suggest Jeeves as an ideal candidate to organize such a rideout dry.gif
