Suddenly last week my internet access at home starting playing up. Spoke to the service provider who says that everything is fine with the connection and when I look at the laptop I see that there is a connection there, but when I try and open any websites I just get an error message saying page not found. Service provider says they cant help as it must be something with my laptop. Any ideas? Didnt change any settings or anything that I know of...
Havent a scooby about this stuff so any help would be really appreciated!

we could suggest loads of things but since you admit to not having a scooby it might be easier and quicker if you ask someone who knows a little about these things to pop round and have a look.

Keeps happening here on and off. Twice this afternoon. It's normally a fluke in the external DSL line.
Its been like it everytime I have tried since last Thursday (and have tried a lot!!)
...up until then I didnt have any problems at all.

If it lasts for more than ten minutes or so we (ok, MrDDBug) calls telekom and has them check the DSL line or he calls Tiscali (our provider) to check their servers and such.
Also, unplugging the box (the one with the blinking lights) for about ten minutes sometimes helps.

I agree with Owain. But if someone can't come over: Reboot everything: laptop, dsl modem, etc. Then try again. Also when you say [quote]when I look at the laptop I see that there is a connection there[quote] do you see the little lights flickering in the left hand bottom corner picture of the two little computers? There is an official name for that - connectoid. But hopefully you get what I mean.

QUOTE (DDBug @ Apr 20 2006, 4:43 pm)

You should have this checked. If it's a Southeast Asian liver fluke then it can attack the area of the bile duct

Wow - learn something new every day.
A (Liver fluke) parasitic flatworm with a complex lifecycle involving snails and sheep/cattle.

Parasitic flatworms are common on Toytown, but rare in external DSL lines...
Hence my concern...

Where is the slapping self on forehead smiley?
I meant, you can even learn things on Toytown.
My implication that parasitic worms live on Toytown was purely accidental.

According to the
T-DSL technical support line (0800 330 2000) there's currently a DSL Großstörung in Munich.

Try to turn off your antivirus if you have one and then try. It so happens that the antivirus blocks the http traffic. You can also try to ping "ping yahoo.co.in". If you get the following results:
C:\Documents and Settings>ping yahoo.co.in
Pinging yahoo.co.in [202.43.219.47] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 202.43.219.47: bytes=32 time=247ms TTL=43
Reply from 202.43.219.47: bytes=32 time=249ms TTL=43
Reply from 202.43.219.47: bytes=32 time=248ms TTL=43
Reply from 202.43.219.47: bytes=32 time=247ms TTL=43
Ping statistics for 202.43.219.47:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 247ms, Maximum = 249ms, Average = 247ms
Then your connection to the internet is working and problem is with the settings of your computer.
I hope it helps...
