fachabitur = vocational diploma?

I'd say "national service as care assisatant" or whatever.

"Community Service" is a punishment from the courts in the UK.

If I were being exact about it, I would translate “Zivildienst� as “compulsory community service in lieu of military service.�

As that is too long and as “compulsory� sounds like someone is putting a gun to your head, I would just write “community service.�

If I'm not mistaken, in English it should be "baccalaureate" (=with an "e" at the end).
