We are fast approaching our pre-reserved numbers, but we also have the opportunity to reserve extra space. If you want to join us at Sinans (they have a brick pizza oven!), then please RSVP. The sooner the better if you want to be assured of a reserved seat.
RSVP to chair_democratsabroadmunich @ yahoo.com
This will be more social oriented as opposed to our normal meetings and is open to all who wish to join the celebration.

I'll be there, as my job has officially ended and so I am back in Munich...at least until we move to London.
Though I doubt the VA race will be decided by 1 am. I think it will come down to counting all the absentee ballots before they make the call, and with such a tight race, I suspect whoever is behind will call for a recount.

It was all in German. Some people with a nice american accent. Some without any accent.
Main point was: Everyone is happy but still a long way to go.
It was on Bayern2Radio in a show called Radiowelt.
They also mentioned that the reporter was looking quite destroyed this morning due to lack of sleep.

Randy Caldwell has agreed to chair the meeting for me. It will be a ‘Letters to U.S.’ event – writing and sending letters back to the U.S. You can decide what letters you’d like to write – for example
* Thank you to Howard Dean
* Congratulations to Senators or Congress People
* Recommendations to newly elected
* Thanks for running to Democrats that tried in a Republican area
* Good luck to Rumsfeld
* Etc.
The fun part will be deciding what to send to whom.
Please bring paper, envelopes and pens.
And bring stamps!!!

@Eurovol - this sounds incredibly, uhhm, juvenile. Is this a 6th grade school project? I wrote letters like that in my social studies and civics classes. Have you no experience in real world politics?
Seriously, if you like these people send them a check. Money matters. Cheesy feel-good letters mean shit. In fact, they just distract these guys from getting work done. Ok, not them, but their staff. Will it give them a warm fuzzy? Doubtful. The big checks they're getting from the PACs that were previously giving them the finger are already doing that aplenty.
Get together, drink and celebrate. Now is the time for that. Letter writing is just stupid. If it doesn't have money inside it doesn't matter. Period.

My life in and around politics and knowing politicians personally from the lowest to the highest levels. My father was even a State Representative and my mother was on the ASDC Excom. To a politician, a handwritten letter means quite a lot, especially today in the age of emails. During the fundraising phase, designating contributions from a particular group by adding $0.xy cents to it gets noticed even though some suggest it doesn't. In the world of politics, a person who gives $100 and does nothing more is worth less than one true activist who donates their time and energy and skills. Money may get you in the door the first time, but if you have nothing more to contribute you won't get back in the door without more and more money.

http://thomas.loc.gov/Tips on Writing to Members of CongressQUOTE
The letter is the most popular choice of communication with a congressional office. If you decide to write a letter, this list of helpful suggestions will improve the effectiveness of the letter:
1. Your purpose for writing should be stated in the first paragraph of the letter. If your letter pertains to a specific piece of legislation, identify it accordingly, e.g., House bill: H. R. ____, Senate bill: S.____.
2. Be courteous, to the point, and include key information, using examples to support your position.
3. Address only one issue in each letter; and, if possible, keep the letter to one page.

South Dakota Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson underwent surgery for stroke-like symptoms at George Washington University hospital in Washington, D.C. Wednesday after becoming disoriented Wednesday. While the extent of his illness isn't known yet, Washington political watchers are already noting that a Johnson replacement in the Senate would be made by Republican Gov. Michael Rounds.
South Dakota Secretary of State Chris Nelson said no special restrictions are put on such an appointment and a replacement does not have to be in the same political party.
With the 110th Congress split 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans and two independents that align themselves with the Democrats, majority control of the Senate could shift in the event Johnson is incapacitated.

I think Nancy Pelosi is the biggest hypocrite after watching her swearing in ceremony surrounded by children, saying "Whatever we do, it is all for the children"...etc. Then hailing the passing of the Stem Cell Research Bill as a victory. (Thank God Bush will veto it and the Libs don´t have the votes to overturn it). She´s Pro-Death, and goes against the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, of which, she should no longer be a member (along with Kerry and Kennedy and the rest of those abortionists!). But don´t worry, you Dems, she did manage to post a "No Smoking" sign in the House Lobby.

Nancy Pelosi has exempted StarKist tuna, which is actually Del Monte, from the minimum wage bill. They are in her district, Del Monte is in San Francisco, and the StarKist tuna factory on American Samoa, which employs about 500 Samoans, and it's I guess 75% of the island's workforce, they have a minimum wage there of $3 and something, and they have been exempted from the new minimum wage law by Nancy Pelosi.

Heather will speak about
The Bush Years: Damage Done and Lessons LearnedAuthor/blogger Heather Wokusch examines the Bush administration’s record in four critical global areas including: foreign policy, economy, environment, and energy. She then looks at the 2008 presidential race from the perspective of US electoral integrity, prominent candidates and possibilities for grassroots activism.

A native Californian based in Vienna, Heather Wokusch is the author of The Progressives’ Handbook: Get the Facts and Make a Difference Now series. Her opinion pieces have been featured in newspapers as diverse as The Baltimore Sun, The Japan Times and
Süddeutsche Zeitung; her blog is regularly carried on Common Dreams and other major progressive sites (

Check out what others are saying about Heather...“Heather Wokusch is one of my favorite progressive writers. - Thom Hartmann, Project Censored-award-winning, best-selling author, and the host of a nationally syndicated progressive daily radio talk show.
“Heather Wokusch’s political essays stand prominently among a noble American tradition of dissent and free thought, and provide vital ammunition for all who seek to realize a world where peace and social justice may prevail. Wokusch’s exceptionally intelligent, witty, and passionate work beckons us to action. - Sunil K. Sharma, Dissident Voice.org Editor and Publisher
“This book is an important call to action. A must-read for anyone interested in promoting progressive social change. - Lucinda Hilbrink, People for the American Way Member
“The perfect antidote to misinformation and fear-based politics. Get The Progressives’ Handbook, get the facts and get inspired! - Viviane Lerner, CODEPINK Supporter
“Heather Wokusch stands in a fine - though scarcely flourishing - tradition of American journalism: she’s committed to serving the people for whom she writes, to giving a voice to the voiceless and not taking buzzwords for an answer. If you want to know what’s at stake in today’s politics, don’t rely on the corporate-controlled media: read Wokusch’s books. - Steven P. McGiffen, editor of Spectrezine.org and author of Biotechnology: Corporate Power Versus The Public Interest
