TT after-work Fridays

Drinks at a different bar each week

Toytown Germany > Discussion forum > South Germany > Munich > Meetups in Munich

As has been suggested by others, a new TT drinks night will be established. Unlike TT Tuesday, which usually starts at 1930 thus missing some people as they don't want to go home after work, only to turn around and go out again a few hours later.

TT Fridays will also take place at different places each week, so that we may experience the many different bars and cafes that Munich has to offer. TT Fridays will start at 1600-1700 depending on input, thus allowing more time for fun, yet still allowing you to leave before the trams, buses and U-bahns stop.

There will be only two rules for TT Friday.

1. The locations will change each week for variety. No location will be visited more than once every 2 months.
2. Common TT hangouts will not be considered for location inclusion (Arc, Murphy's, Kilians, etc.)

As the first location for TT Fridays I am nominating the following location. And since it's a rather large place, reservations shouldn't be needed, but will be made if the group get more than ten or so people. We will then decided on possible future location at TTF.

Rodewald's
Lothringer Straße 10
81667 München
Au-Haidhausen
Starts: 1600-1700
Good Food, Good Beer, and last time I was there, some eye candy waitresses.. wink.gif

Tram/S-Bahn stop: Rosenheimer Platz (around the corner from Outland)

So add it to your after work weekend fun plans!

Hi,

Do you maybe have an internet link to Rodewald's? Hoping that their website will say what kind of place it is.. Bavarian, American.. etc.
Darkknight
Still Looking for an Official one, but you can look Here or Here (With Pix) for most of the Info. your looking for.. In addition to the inside, if the weathers is nice they also have an outdoor patio area out back...

PS: Google is also your friend.. wink.gif

Didn't find anything about the food (maybe I'm blind!) but I found this, hoorah!
Cocktail-Happy-Hour täglich von 17.00 - 20.00 und 23.00 bis 01.00 Uhr / alle alk. Cocktails € 4,50 + anti-alk. € 3,50

(Cocktail happy hour daily from 5pm to 8pm (and 11pm-1am) - all alcoholic cocktails cost €4.50 and non-alcoholic €3.50)

are they still open?
one of the reviews on your link reckons they closed down just before Christmas
Darkknight
Well, Ill just have to go see, now won't I biggrin.gif

Just checked, The Phone # is still up and working. I'll go do a visual later today..
(DTAG, usually keeps old #'s out of service for 6months or more, so if it closed around xmas, their phone # wouldn't work)
If it really is closed, then I already have back-up plans...

@ER
This Thread is the sign-up sheet, until the event gets more popular and EB creates a real one like TT Tuesdays.
Eleanor Rigby
I'd be up for this, Fridays are a better day to make the most out of Happy Hour.

Will there be a sign-up sheet?
bluedave
Agreed it's a nice way to kickstart the weekend and no worries about the next morning like on schoolnights smile.gif
Jeeves
Except that some of us finish earlier on Fridays so the argument about not going home first still applies biggrin.gif
Darkknight
@Bluedave
Yes a TTF is a good kick-off for the weekend, esp. this one where you might have to wake up early, to catch the train to Andechs
Only to hike up a mountain and continue where you left off the night before... biggrin.gif

I may go straight after work and I get off early on Fridays as well. We'll call it a pre-happy hour warm up. smile.gif

We've actually been organising something similar from time to time, this makes it a lot easier to plan.

did I hear a happy hour calling? rolleyes.gif

I will try and make it as soon as possible. I am on the road friday afternoon, so not exactly sure when i can be there.

uhm, no. sorry to break the news, but Rodewalds is no longer open. it is now Bar Italia.

since I live near there, i can report that the closing of Rodewalds late last summer was quite a surprise and happened quite fast. Up until they closed, they had a considerable and constant business, but then one day, they packed up all the equipment and bugged out. then a couple days later, some big bellied, cigar smoking Italian guys showed up. It all took place over the course of 3 days. I have no idea what caused the sudden departure of the Rodewalds staff, nor have I ever seen them again.

with this, here is an alternative suggestion (which is a take on what in Chicago is called a "Bambi walk"):
- pick 2 U/S-Bahn stops.
- Begin at one and work your way to the other by stoping in every bar along the way for one drink only.

in the case of Munich, it may be best for someone to scout out the path first, since there can be many different routs between any 2 points - we don't want this to be a never ending pub crawl - or do we...?

Nice one DK! How about we try a bar that's actually open?
Keydeck
Rookie mistake. The idea is great and has potential but a little research goes a long way. Perhaps even ask the mods to close this thread and start a new one when you've done your homework. Good luck with the next venue.

coke and sprite then

I find that quite cheap for cocktails (for Munich)!

Haidhauser Augustiner in Wörthstr ?

Varied crowd and close to Ostbahnhof for travellers or are we looking more for cocktail happy hour locations ?

Jazz Canteen and Negronis both within walking distance of this place.
Eleanor Rigby
I'd prefer cocktail happy hour myself (more bang for your buck) but I'm flexible.

Negroni is nice and fairly large. It gets busy late on but if we get there early enough we can reserve some seats. Or maybe even *gasp* make a reservation wink.gif

Alt. Locations...
--------------------
Cafe Voilà in der Wörthstr. 5
Vorstadt Café Türkenstrasse 83, Schwabing (0900-0200)
Schumann’s Bar Odeonsplatz 6+7 (Opens at 1700)
Masters Home, Frauenstraße 11 (Opens at 1700)
Bobolovsky’s, Ursulastraße 10 (09:00-03:00)
TheDevilHimself
Vorstadt Café at Türkenstrasse 83, Schwabing (0900-0200) is pretty nice. Decently big, with comfortable couches for big groups. And if the weather is nice, they do put the tables outside. The food there is pretty good too. Not sure about their happy hour timings though.
Eleanor Rigby
If we're just throwing out random locations:

El Perro e el Grieco
Belfortstr. 14
Haidhausen

Happy Hour 18:00 - 20:00 - half price cocktails

I'm with bluedave, I say let's stick with Haidhausen for this event.

Haidhauser Augustiner is a good one. Not sure about happy hour on cocktails, but if I recall correctly they have a special on food until 7pm or so, and of course the beer is fab. Why not kick it off at the Haidhauser Augustiner this week and take it from there.

Also, there's Molly Malones, furthermore a brand spanking new place opened only yesterday on Franziskanerstraße (Haidhausen-Au) called Lenbacher's Wirtshaus, looks typical Bavarian. Oh, and there's surely over 100 other possible venues in Haidhausen...

But it's DKs event, so it's for him to decide (if he manages to pick a venue that actually exists, that is wink.gif )
OhFFS
The "Bambi Walk" idea won't work because people will want to turn up at different times, depending on when they finish work and how long it takes them to get from work to the drinking area - they simply won't know which bar the group are in at any given time. Nice idea for afterwards though, maybe, simply start the "Walk" at some given place, which is the TTAWF venue, and drink there until, say, 7, then start wobbling along the selected route.
