Purity and cleanliness levels

I Know we have had the debate on water purity.

This was my water supply last Thursday...

In my old flat, I would occasionally get BLACK water from the bathroom tap for a few secs.

First time it happened I was having a bath, it was scary, like blood-from-a-tap-scary-movie scary and I can tell you that you dont just sit in a bath and panic like they do in the movies. I was out of that water quicker than you could blink.

We think it was probably just some buildup in the pipes in the building - occasionally coming loose and making the water black. Quite nasty.

of course it would go away before I could ever get a sample of it to show the hausmeister.

Any construction going on in your area? perhaps they broke/replaced a pipe and got dirt in it...

The water purity does not account for the plumbing in old buildings, like mine. Every so often (especially after returning from vacation), I need to run the water as hard as it will go for a few minutes to purge the pipes of brown and black stuff. Naturally, I don't drink the water from my taps.

The Filters get bloked with Rust too.. only takes a month to block them...

Running the water does clear it, but this in mainly on the hot water side.. so it costs me money, plus I need to replace my shower curtains regular as they turn orange too! sad.gif

ADE, ask the Hausmeister about the pipes. The landlord should sort it, You SHOULD be able to drink the water from the tap cos Munich's is arguably the best in Europe. cool.gif

I own the flat...

So theoretically, I am the landlord.. sad.gif

Sounds like it's time for your to install a softing/filtering system and get the house pipes checked biggrin.gif
My water comes from the same wells/pipes yours does, and I don't have this problem..

Looks to me like there's been a pipeline break out in the street somewhere. In the last 15 years we've had at least 7 mains breakages in my street and afterwards the water always looks like that!

Grinner, take a sample before it goes into your washing machine, not after it comes out
