As I nobly struggle my way through this months 'Neon' with dictionary by my side, a word has finally stumped me. It is neither in Pons, nor on Leo.
The article is about young criminals who have home made nazi tats and want to get less reprehensible symbology overlaid - generally it seems the like pictures of Vikings.
One guy, 'Karl-Heinz, aged 23' describes his SS lightening flashes thus:
"Das sieht piefig aus"
I guess it means something like minging or crappy but wondered if anyone had a more precise definition?
Thanks in advance

The word may be a missprint.
There is a word "pfiffig" which means: smart, cute, sharp and would fit in contextually.

That's what I thought originally, but he's talking about the shit old tat that he wants to get rid of. So suspect he doesn't feel too positive about it.
They use the word later in the article as well in a similar context so doubt it's a misprint.
Thanks for trying Garibaldi!

"piefig" not a German word, but comes from the Rheinland dialect, meaning "bourgeois", "middle-class", or possibly "outmoded". The nearest German equivalent is "spießig" from which it probably originates.
Old-fashioned, "out" (as opposed to something that's "in" or "trendy").
Edit: Beaten to it

Is there anything in the world that man/woman yorkshirelad doesn't know.
He's a bloody fountain of knowledge.
I spent an hour reading his old posts this morning and I'm now a fledgling fountain of knowledge on matters as diverse as mobile/landline phones and how to slap sarabyrd's wrist and get away with it.
Praise where praise is due.

If only you knew how many I've not got away with, where postings have been deleted... Some people just can't take constructive criticism. I've got them all stored if you want copies... (including, of course, this one...)

There
are references to piefig on Leo. If you can't find it in the normal lexicon, a second great resource is the forum and archive. You can access the search interface
here.
Alternately, you can ask google to show you all the references to a word that leo might have. In this case by searching using the
site: operator. For example:
site:dict.leo.org piefig
when entered into the google search box, will return
these results.

Have I just received a "Keydecking-Lite"?

Not in the least. I was only trying to share some searching tricks I use. We can't all just be able to answer the question out of our own knowledge like YL6. I have to rely on my google-fu. I find both things useful on a regular basis and thought perhaps you might too.
I am also both morally and philosophically opposed to smilies, so the post didn't perhaps come off as light as it might have.

YL6 has many admirers!
PES and I often rejoice over his erudite posts.
We're certain he's the main reason TT keeps increasing its traffic.
He should be on the TT payroll as resident expert.
YL6-- did you ever play "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" I have no doubt you could answer every question and rake in the dough!

@ iceberg slim
the advice was much appreciated and certainly useful. That whole 'site' thing on google is genius!
was only joking with the keydecking, but this being the internet, didn't come through.
cheers

Verily sun-by you are right.
The problem is that we don't know how Lady Luck disports with him.
'twould be an awful pity to get through and then fail to beat the time question.
Should he ever try it though, I will call all the powers of the Rantapine to dwell upon his case.
It works. I managed to post this!
