I have no idea whether I have Monday or Friday or both days as a holiday. I usually find out ten minutes before my boss leaves for the day. What about you? Do you have these days free?

Those two are official holidays. As far as I know everybody is free. Except those who because of the nature of their work must be there i.e. police, firefighters, doctors and similar.

Yes, I just read that they are from this
site that Randy has posted in the past.
They write, "gesetzlicher Feiertag (bundesweit)"

oh gross Timmeh!
Why don't you just ask your boss? Or other people in your department if you have the days off?

I haven't spoken with him since January...and there are no other co-workers.

If these are gesetzlicher Feiertage, how come a friend of mine was asked to work for no extra pay on those days and over the weekend... is that illegal?

they are public holidays, no way will you need to go into work tomorrow
if I had to work tomorrow for any reason, I'd need to get permission from HR and the Betriebsrat
