Munich Fashion - the Midriff Gap

What the hell is this?

Right then,

On the little bit of the "real world" I see every day, if you can call the bit I see whilst speeding on the U1 through Sendlinger Tor and Hauptbahnhof every day, I notice that the girls have this "new" fashion - a gap in the midriff between trousers and shirt or jumper. Yes it looks tasty I'll admit on a 20 year old but some have accidental spillages of puppy fat which don't look too appealing.

Someone ought to tell them to tuck their blouses into their nickers. They'll catch their death of cold in this weather. "Cast ne'er a clout till May is out".

Or am I just sounding like a father?
Katrina
You are a father.
High-waisted stuff is coming back in to tell the truth so it is not even fashionable.
Of course if I had Britney's belly, I would walk around like that too...
I'm wearing sandals today (to show off my pedicure).
wink.gif Katrina
PS You having a "Hell" day Jeremy? Second thread from you with that in.
Elfenstar
are you just talking about the belly-free fasion? that was in last year too. nothing new or do the clothes have actual holes in them?

what i don't get in the age of hip-huggers, which i absolutely love, is that many, too many women don't follow the golden rule: if you can't fit your hand comfortably into the side of the pants, then they are too tight cause even if you have a teeny bit of roll, they will show up like huge love handles!
Presh
I would like to comment on the lack of longer style tshirts or tops available. In Aus its very cool to have longer, fitted t shirts or tops so they sit on the waist. They all seem to be midrif or cropped here ...
Acutally I would just like to say that I hate Munich fashion and that I have yet to find a shop where I could buy a decent outfit. Went to Barcelona and found the UK chain Top Shop.. loved it. Wish it was here... anyone know of any groovy clothing shops for a 23 year old.. something with style? Not your crappy (tacky)clubbing wear or that stupid teen fashion that makes you look like punky brewster crossed with michael jackson. Even a place that sells cool t shirts with funky designs?
Jimbo
Presh - save your pennies and get an Easyjet or cheapo BA flight to London, go shopping, have a hotel for one night so you can go drinking too, and then fly back the next day with a suitcase full of Top Shop/Next/Miss Sixty/Whatever else there is in London clothes. If you can afford to shop around for flights they should be dead cheap...
Presh
Yeah if I was here longer I would... leaving in 6 weeks and moving to UK/Ireland so I hope I can wait till then...
Jimbo
In which case you're sorted - depending on where it is that you move to of course. The Topshop at Oxford Circus (that's in London on the off chance you didn't know that) is about 7 storeys and carries pretty much the entire range of stuff. And if you win the lottery there's Bond Street...

Theres a T-Shirt shop on Fraunhoferstasse, near the corner of Müllerstrasse that has good T-Shirts.

@Katrina:

Yep I am having a "What the Hell..." day. I realised I had lifted the expression from anold Q magazine regular called "Who the Helöl does ... think he is" in whch they interviewed some currently notorious celeb in the 80s.

Last day today then I fly to Teneriffe!
randy
The bare midriff style's not so bad, depending on the person, eh? My complaint is there's no mixup in the styles here - that university look gets old very fast. It's like going to Boston - there's a specific look, everyone has it; it's nice; and after 1 week of it, the desire for anarchy, violence, and something different is super strong.

Throw some sleaze and dirt in the fashion; add in a silver tooth or two - look a little dangerous - get these munich girls into something exciting fer chris'sake!

On the recent vacation to California, I noticed the new fashion for girls is hip-hugger sweat pants; and for men, trucker caps. And bad hair is definitely in...woo
Katrina
Have a nice holiday then Jeremy! Where are you going? North or South? I prefer the North myself and watch that banana liqueur stuff, all starts off very nice until a bad descent into, erm, hell. So I've heard... wink.gif
As for Top Shop, there is no German equivalent, well not at Top Shop prices. Miss Sixty is however cheaper here and you can actually get Energie jeans (because they have wait-lists in London). Höhenzollernstr. has quite a few more funky shops I hear as does Gärtnerplatz/Müllerstr. area (I am too old for all that malarkey though).Hig-hugger sweatpants is Juicy Couture though (even bloody Jordan/Katie Price wears them) and the trucker cap Von Dutch trend in London died as soon as Victoria Beckham had one...
Katrina
Elfenstar
oh right on, trucker caps. was at the loggia lounge with some other TTers recently and they wouldn't let some people from the group in, but they did a guy wearing this ugly trucker cap!
UrbanAngel
I must confess that I dislike the hipsters with a passion.
Ever since they came into fashion, I haven't been able to find a single pair of 'normal' trousers.
By normal, I mean a pair that will not reveal your underwear when you sit down/bend over, and that goes higher up the waistline at a more flattering height. Another thing that annoys me are flares.
I like straight legged trousers which neither flare out nor are tapered at the bottom. Also impossible to find!

Rant over smile.gif

I just stick to combats cos they're baggy.
Keydeck
I dislike hipsters bigtime! Girls have hips. It's the curviness that adds to the attractiveness of women. These hipsters pretty much ruin a womans natural curviness.

Not sexy in the slightest! Anti-sexy in fact.

Exposed midriff, very sexy, very sexy indeed, but not at the expense of natural body shape. Go for a shorter top, not lower waistline.
Big C
tops showing midriff is old news, think back to "hit me baby one more time" from britney. more recently was the low riding jeans fashion, so we get more ass and "back dimples" for our girl. i just hope pedal pushers go out as quickly as they came in.
Keydeck
And unless they've got a body like J-Lo they're gonna look like a 15 year old boy. Not good!
Presh
Pedal pushers Big C?? You don´t like 3/4 pants? Why on earth not?
Keydeck
I second that motion. Pedal pushers were bloody awful the first time around. It's bad.

Next you'll have some daft bint going out with a pair of leg-warmers on over her high-heeled boots.
Mind's Eye
I have nothing against the belly-free fashion. I consider it one of the fringe benefits of living in Munich. A much higher percentage of people who can get away with wearing this are doing it. Of the people who sling these styles in the states, a higher percentage of them shouldn't be.. biggrin.gif
Inflatablewoman
I'm all for it.
tench
@Minds Eye: I'll second that. Much rather see yer average munich girls midriff than that of the average english lass..

Another thing.. Why are the blokes bitching about them. If you don't like them, I suggest you don't wear them tongue.gif
Smelly Socks
Are male capri's in fashion this year again? I can just see guys wearing capri's and trucker caps, and those oh so cool shirts that say "rebel". rolleyes.gif
butterbean
too true, Mind's Eye. While I am all for young women not starving themselves into Skeltor like they were when I was in high school, the style I saw a lot of in America of letting one's nowhere-near-as-flat-as-Britney's belly ooze out from under your mini top and over your hipsters is bad news. The girls with a flat belly just make me jealous, but that's maybe another thread.

that said, I do like wearing hipsters and cropped pants... ph34r.gif
Big C
I'm all for crop tops, but only on girls with nice stomachs. I don't wanna be bringing my dinner back up!
I also like the low riding jeans - mmmm back dimples.
Pedal pushers - urrgh! yuck, get rid of em now.
bubblylady
that reminds me of my gym... huh.gif

Why do you not like Pedal pushers? And i like the belly-free fashion as well...
*taking the coat and going to the gym*

I don't like that Pimkie, Orsay NewYorker style either. I think it just looks cheap...

@Jimbo
going shopping in London, oxford Circus??? That does cost a lot of money and the quality in the "cheaper" shops really sucks!
Presh
In the next few weeks I´m going to bombard you with 3/4´s Big C. I´ve got about 5 pairs (2 pairs of denims, one black, one beige stripes, one brown). I´ll put them on rotation so that should get you over it!!
Big C
Well you'll have a big arse and fat thighs then! unsure.gif

They are just too rarely flattering.
Jimbo
@Bubblylady - Oxford Circus? Topshop? Expensive? No way! I'm not sure about the quality, but the prices in there are rock bottom (aren't they?!?). Sure, some places on Oxford St. are a bit pricey (like Selfridges), but generally it's OK IMHO. Bond St is a different matter of course. At the other end you can try the markets and the independent places all over London (Carnaby St and especially Covent Garden are OK)...
Presh
huh.gif ooh I bet all the ladies on TT are holding their breath about that comment Big C! Well, we´ll see what you think...
bubblylady
@Big C

Are you jealous you can't wear them?
why do our asses get fatter when we take a little off at the other end of the pants??? I don't understand... And maybe we just wanna show off our immaculate, toned thighs...
Katrina
I'm not so keen on 3/4 trousers on me because I am short, they make me look even more diddy. Slightly cropped look ok though. I don't mind them on other people though (as long as the correct size is worn of course - not the size that can still have the zip done up with the use of a shoe horn but the one that actually fits...but that goes for anything really).
And Top Shop is cheap, the quality is variable but they sell quick fashion-y things that you get sick of quickly so it doesn't matter too much.
I only go to Selfridges (the ground floor Spirit dept. and second floor) and M&S Marble Arch (suits!) along there though, Jimbo.

Man. I've got to quit spead reading. This dyslexic crap is the worst. blink.gif

Pleased to see that not only I read it wrong then...on the first reading I raised a silent toast to Big C's good fortune. On the second reading I just shook my head at what might have been...

34C ain't that big. Heidi Klum pre-pregnancy was a 34C (why I know this I have no idea). She'll give herself a black eye that lass. Needs one of these.

I'm familiar with 34C thanks Katrina. I just didn't have a humourous animated gif of any. Sorry.

Thought you would be somehow wink.gif

PS The wearer of that sports bra is Anna Kournikova.

ahh. cool.gif

I think we have succesfully hijacked the thread from talking about women's midriffs to the size of their breasts and apparently how bouncy they are in anime-land.
Sorry. ph34r.gif

Now that we are talking about BREASTS ... dry.gif

Girls ... it's the 2 year replacement time, does anyone have a recommendation of where I can find seamless "well" supportive bras?

Comfort and lift being being the key factor ...

I'm a huge fan of Victoria Secret ... but won't budge on paying the International taxes and shipping.

Thanks,
Willy
Katrina
Hiya
if you are small to medium, Palmers should be your choice (they also stock Wolford seamless as well as their own brand, both of which do not go generally past C). Palmers online - it is the Pure range which is seamless (and gents, you can now buy the posters instead of stealing them from bus stops!).
If you want a large choice from mid-range to silly money, Ludwig Beck is ok, Chantelle (better for big) and Huit (very good for padded, their bikinis are very famous for their uplift) would be the 2 brands to look for here.
If you want something unusual (but sold by a miserable woman), the small shop next to the Frauenkirche has a good range of Aubade products. She is miserable though.
For high-end things Mohrmann Basics is a sexy shop crammed with pretty undies, bathing suits, sarongs and jewellery by the likes of Chloe, Marni, Antik Batik and Prada. Samller sizes only though.
If you want a bargain, apparently there is a La Perla outlet shop in Rieger City (Cinemaxx complex at Isartor)?
And if you want to be measured, Hertie am Hauptbahnhof. The department there is huge and it is difficult to find what you want BUT if you can speak German and tell them what you want, they will (given that you don't go on a Saturday afternoon or during sales times) go and find it. They also have a La Perla and a Palmers department. I tend to take the outfit with me and they will find something to suit, it is also the best place to get a drindl bra (yes there is such a thing - white lace balconette demi-cup).
Frankly I still think that M&S Smoothlines Seamless T-Shirt bra beats Victoria's Secret hands down, I've never got on with VS stuff (well the make-up is ok I guess).

Go to Budapest for funky, original, unique clothes!! I hate Munich fashion with a passion.. Everyone looks awful, not to mention as if they're all clones of one another. There are a few interesting pieces to be found here and there, but far and few between.. I hung out in Budapest for quite a while last month, and the sheer number of stores offering one-offs from Hungarian designers is astounding (in stark contrast to the homogenaity of Munich junk).. As for the whole sweatpant juicy couture thing..I lived in santa monica for about 2 years not so long back, and that's been out for -ages-..it was out before I moved here last July. And I was wearing midriff tops as a freshman in high school (about 7 years ago).. Maybe it's just hit here, though I doubt it. Must be a seasonal phenomenon.
As for the hiphuggers, I'm of the camp that firmly believes thongs/asses should stay nicely tucked in, unless one happens to be one of the top .05% that can pull it off with grace. Even those of us that are endowed in that dept. should keep -some- things under wraps.
randy
RT, perhaps it's out, but anecdotally, about every 3rd 20-something girl I saw was wearing [sexy] sweatpants. This only a month ago; 3rd st., Venice, Mid-Wilshire, Claremont, Valley, etc. Maybe it's passe in the ueber-trendy high school world though wink.gif

That was only daytime though; nights are still good for 40's fashion (girls), and grunge (both genders) is back in style again. Oh, and trucker caps (men), and bad hair (men). Thank god, that's sooo easy to fit in with, whew! biggrin.gif

Oh, and midriff tops have been around *much* longer than (eek) high school in the 90's. ph34r.gif
