It was a great time tonight, definitivly will be there next week (if the wounds from this week recover properly (yes I bited the asfalt)) we got a good group together, hopefully next week more people will join. the biergarden afterwards was just lovely, that bier just slides down your throat.
someone asked if they rented blades, they do and if I remember correctly they're free, just bring some sort of ID and be there early.
off to bed now, (hopefully tomorow I can walk)

I made an inline skate acquisition upon turning 38, as I could not afford liposuction. By the way, liposuction is cheaper than knee surgery.
Okay, back to the point. Contact Benjy at Green City for information on blade night. Last year Nike would lend you blades at no charge, you just had to let them hold onto your passport while their blades are on your feet.
It is always a good idea to drink plenty of beer while skating. Beer softens the blow when rolling through severe gravity storms.

just bought blades & gear this weekend & tried them out yesterday. fun! i'm not ready for blade night yet, but soon i hope. any idea how long it takes the slower ones to finish the course?
Allen
May 24 2004, 6:37 pm
I've been twice, both times everybody has finished inside two hours.
My hint for practising: once you've got the hang of going in a straight line, find a small space (10-20 metres square, something like that) and go round and round in circles and figure 8s, in both directions so you don't get dizzy. This will teach you turning and stopping a lot quicker than skating along the street does.

May 24 2004, 6:38 pm
Lisa did you know how to skate before or you just started learning? you have 2 hours to finish the course, last week we finished the first lap (11km's) in 1 hour and we where going in a nice calm speed.so I think if you can already skate you can make it through the blade night.
Take care,
Fred

sounds reassuring! LisaE, let me know how it goes as I am still stuck in the office at 20:45 so will have to hope I make it next week! Which, bearing in mind it's a bank holiday, shouldn't be too hard really!

May 24 2004, 9:47 pm
Well this was maybe my 3rd time on rollerblades but I used to rollerskate all the time as a kid. I was out for 2.5 hours, lots of stopping practice but not the proper way using the brake. Fell down one time for no apparent reason! Other than that I was OK. Mostly I need some practice maneuvering so I don't hurt anyone, so Jooly if you are doing another practice session then I would prob join. Will be on holiday this week though, so I will catch up with you guys after. Hope it was fun tonight!

Another great blade night, it was a bit cold but still great (hope I don't get the flu again), anyways if anyone want's to practice this week? post something, I think allen said something about going in the olympia park on thursday. who's up for it?
Take care,
Fred
BTW: next week is the family week, I'm not sure how it work's if it's sooner or if it goes slowlier, does anyone have any info on this?
Johnny_who?
May 25 2004, 8:57 am
it was good last night, but it was a little slow in comparison to last week...
Next week it's the family bladenight, it's a puplic holiday and they start at 5pm. I don't know what it's gonna be like...
For the future I would suggest we meet right at the start in Marsstrasse in front of the Circus Krone. Otherwise you spend the first twenty minutes going extremely slowly.

good blade night! Totally different from the Dutch Blade Nights though

now I'm curious...tell us more about the Dutch bladenight, do you guys skate on one leg only so your wheels wouldn't wear out so fast?

Family blade starts early (5p.m.). Course is easy. And you'll have lots of kiddies around you. Good for beginners (and slow inline-skaters like me.)

I'd be up for next Monday, no chance of work stopping me and the benefit of having a fun little obstacle course of german whippersnappers to whizz around..

so who's up for this week's blade night?
it's the family blade night so I reckon it will be a bit slowlier, also with a lot of kids. (chris if you're coming try not to kill anyone this week)

we can meet up as usual, at the front door of the augustiner beergarten in ArnulfStr, around 14:30 since it starts at 15.

Blade Night is a series of Summer evenings when thousands of rollerbladers follow a designated route through the city en masse. This year there will be a total of 18 blade nights: every Monday evening from 3rd May until 30th August inclusive. There will be four different routes which will be used in turn on different weeks. All the routes start and finish between Hackerbruecke and
Circus Krone (near the Hauptbahnhof). The side-show entertainments start at 7pm whilst the skate train itself sets off at 9pm (later than last year so as to minimise traffic disturbance). The event started in 1999 and has taken place every Summer since. Previously there have been evenings when over 30 thousand rollerbladers took part. Official website:

dunno if anyone did blade-night last year but that's a good place to meet girls. it's full of sensational looking chicks. if you look a bit wobbly on your feet then you can easily ask someone to hold your hand if it looks like the road is going down a steeper bit. i've not been refused yet though that is maybe tempting fate too much! i think it appeals to their sympathy/pity emotions plus a bit of mothering instinct, hoo har - come to daddy!
Keydeck
Mar 22 2004, 12:21 pm
And I'd happily machine-gun every last one of them as they go past!
If you intend getting around Munich by car or bicycle while the Blade-night is running you would be well advised to become familiar with the route. Otherwise you may find yourself stuck at a junction for anything up to 2 hours at worst as they stream past.

Personally, I'd like to stand at the Paul-Heyse Unterführung with a fertilizer bag full of ball bearings and just let em roll.
Rollerblading scum...the way they take up so much room on the cycle paths in the horizontal with their spastic wheelings and pads of shame.

I see that the true spirit of the Putsch is still alive and well in old Muenchen. Hey Keydeck, slowburn and Punchbear, why not head on down to the Hofbrauhaus in your brown shirts and see if you can stir up some action? The machine gun comment was especially warm - first the skaters, then the Jews, then the Gypsies, then...

oh chill out, you oversensitive git! That comment was a bit much, in all fairness. It's only a bit of a laugh or have you ever been on this site before? You have a lot to learn...
Agreed - killing Jews and Gypsies was well out of line. Gunning down inline skaters is doing the world a service. FACT.

7 out of 13 blade nights have been cancelled this year due to bad weather. The skaters are not happy bunnies. Check their
