Gauting - a village near Munich

We currently live in Ottobrunn, however as our son will be going to the MIS school in Starnberg we are thinking of moving closer to there, I don't fancy the hour long drive to get him to school. We were thinking of moving to Gauting as I heard that there is a large British community there so it would be easier to get settled.

Does anyone have any details of letting agents down that way. I have looked on a web site called Immoscout24. And got some info, but obviously need a lot more. Does anyone live round there, what's it like? I have a 4 yr old and a 4 month old, is there a lot for kids? Any playgroups etc?

Also, does anyone know what 'zzgl nebenkosten' means, obviously I know what nebenkosten means but I don't know if it means included or not included.

Hi Scotchick, I can help you with one bit, and that's zzgl means "in addition". So it's that price plus the nebenkosten.

würmtal echo and infodienst are the freebee newpapers we get in gräfelfing they cover gauting to i think. will check when i get home.

I live in graefelfing also. Also a good choice if you don't find anything in gauting:-)

I live in Gräfelfing, (just a bit north of Gauting), sorry I can't help with any immobilien, although there's one in Gräfelfing I could get you the details for, but the 'wurmtal' area is good.

Don't know of any local playgroups and would certainly love to know more of this large british community over here. I go to playgroups all over Munich and I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 16 month old.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, now we just have to think about it and see what we want to do. I have another son who is only 4 months old so not sure I fancy such a long drive every day.

I live in Gauting and my kids go to MIS. Most kids ride a school bus/van that picks them up in their neighborhoods. There are lots of MIS families here, a few with younger than school age children. Lots of people are leaving from Gauting at the end of the school year (1st of July). Buchendorf is another small farm village 1 km away from Gauting that also has several MIS families, one of which is leaving. Now is the time to find the houses. They are already being shown to potential renters.
