several TT topics have danced around a "general recommendation thread", including:

Podcasts - recommedations for Podcatcher software, For a non-iPod mp3 player Options Rating

Good german podcasts and radio programs, Or 'programmes', if you prefer

Podcasts - stay informed on news from back home, Jeremy Paxman joins expanding BBC Podcast trial

Ricky Gervais - Podcast, Weekly ½ hour shows to download for free

Podcasts - What are they?

But it would be nice to hear which podcasts TTers would recommend (from your home area or anywhere).

some of my more recent discoveries include:
Sound Opinions - "the world’s only rock and roll talk show." Chicago music critics discuss music, rock and roll, hip hop, news, upcomming events, and all sorts of modern music.

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! - "NPR's weekly current events quiz. Have a laugh and test your news knowledge while figuring out what's real and what we've made up."

The Late Night Late Show - improv comedy video production from Second City Chicago

Tiki Bar TV - "Forbidden cocktails in a swank pad." monthly video skits privately produced in a San Francisco pad.

note: all the above are also listed in iTunes (but you do not need iTunes to view them, of course).

so, what've you got TT?

@Chicago - Thanks for the link back to Sound Opinions. I'd forgotten to look for them after they left WXRT. Good listening.

It's not from anywhere near home, but I usually try to keep tabs on This Sporting Life with Roy & HG on Triple J. Some of the best "sports talk" you'll find. Always popular in Australia (so I'm told), the boys received international acclaim during the Sydney games. They're currently on an extended leave, but should be back in late April.
Small Town Boy
The Word Nerds - a weekly Podcast about language.

Ricky Gervais' podcast, the most popular in the world. Very good if you have a sense of humour

Ok, so I admit I'm a bit of a science geek, but I like the nature podcast. If you like science but not quite at the nature level, "the naked scientists" podcast is the same host in a more easily-digestible format, plus they do a lot of Q&A stuff.

There's a hilarious, low-rate, zero production value podcast for dry humour fans from James Whittingham. This guy did some of the most creative and entertaining amateur broadcasting on a community access channel.

Check out the video of his neighbour cutting her lawn with scissors. (Tip: listen to the music.)

I hate the whole thought of even typing the word "podcast"...however...

thanks, chicago, for a few good ones!

The only one I've ever really liked was fatwreck's... http://www.fatwreck.com/community/

...and they've only done two so far...

What podcasts do people listen to?
I looked on iTunes Podcast list, and there are hundreds & thousands - too much to try to filter out the useless.

My two favorites are

CBC's "Quirks and Quarks" Podcast from Canada - a discussion of ~5 current science topics. Broadcast every Saturday morning in Canada.

and of course

The Onion Radio News - the best fake news.

Both are available from the links above and from iTunes

I used to listen to Ricky Gervais. The first 12 episodes were good, and I bought a couple of the "Second Season", but lost interest.

Anyone else?

Oh I definitely reccomend most show podcasts from Virgin Radio but especially this one:

I LOVE that program, very funny! biggrin.gif

My day is not complete without Garrison Keillor's "Writer's Daily Almanac" podcast. It's five minutes long and usually concentrates on information about a particular writer whose birthday falls on that day. It always ends with a poem read beautifully by Keillor in his lovely deep voice. To subscribe, click here:

Chicago and I were discussing this on Sunday. WXRT, our favorite radio station in the Windy City, is now podcasting their feature "Goin' to the Show with A Regular Guy". Dead on movie reviews from a blue-collar Chicagoan. Roger Ebert is still the king of reviewers, but A Regular Guy is in a firm second place.

Starting next week, I will be podcasting a magazine called Sofia. The magazine will be for expats and the first issue will contain some of the articles created by Toytown writers and they will be getting verbal and written credit for their work.

As part of the preparation for the magazine, I started podcasting my first novel.. so Sofia Verlag is presenting a chapter segment a week.

If you want to hear the first podcast, you can find it here at
Chasing the wind

If you have something you wrote and think it is good enough for a twenty minute podcast, let me know.. I would love to podcast some more expat literature... No royalties on this.. you would be doing it for the pure love of having your work exposed to an itunes audience... You never know, someone might hear your first chapter or short story and want to publish it biggrin.gif

Point of Inquiry

Science, reason & skepticism. It's awesome for learning cool stuff to make you feel humble in the universe and also for hearing great minds untangle popular issues.

QUOTE
Point of Inquiry is the premiere podcast of the Center for Inquiry, drawing on CFI’s relationship with the leading minds of the day including Nobel Prize-winning scientists, public intellectuals, social critics and thinkers, and renowned entertainers. Each episode combines incisive interviews, features and commentary focusing on CFI’s issues: religion, human values and the borderlands of science.

Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins & Anne Druyan appear regularly. The show tackles the paranormal, alternative medicine & religion along with other pseudoscience & popular bullshit. The intro is about as cheesy as they could make it but the rest of the show is quality.

The San Francisco Chronicle has started a new podcast called "Correct Me If I'm Wrong", which has clips (received via voice mail) of interesting and unusual reader opinions and reactions to articles printed in the newspaper.

The first entry (scroll down the page, as it's chronological most recent to earliest, top to bottom) has become an Internet Hit; where a reader rants about an article concerning "pilotless drone" aircraft. The original voice mail now has several YouTube videos based on it, been set to music and remixed, and is available as a ringtone - all available from the Podcast link.

Soulsearching (the Compost Radio Show) http://www.milkaudio.com/web/radio_soulsearching.php
(jazz/house/hip hop/broken beat - all things good and a bit leftfield, reocrded in Frankfurt every week by a great DJ called Michael Rütten and put out then over about 5 or 6 different websites world wide)

Gilles Peterson Worldwide on Radio 1 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/index.shtml
(more great leftfield jazzy goodness - as above the track selection goes from jazz to house to hip hop and beyond - I have been listening to this for years) - note you will need a podcatcher to download this one.

2Types on Samurai FM (www.samuraifm.com)
There are loads of music shows on this website, 2Types is a personal favourite - as above this needs a podcatcher

Can anyone recommend something that meets these chriteria:

1) Daily
2) In German
3) a humor format, like a morning radio program?

And good recommendations are appreciated.

2) and 3) are mutually exclusive. No chance.
