@byrdbrain
The meeting point is usually at Hbf, near the Limo/Bar Car... Before going downstairs to the
SBahn platforms
to take the S5 to Herrshing..
Yes, you can bring your own food, but you gotta buy their beer and soda...

There was cack-loads of food brought along to the last one including IW's great wraps and some rather odd boiled eggs. No problem from any of the staff who were around.

Right chaps. So the meeting time is 10.15am. We have checked the weather on various sites and we have a variety of scenarios. However, general forecast is 15 degrees and showery weather. We can always sit inside if it gets too cold or wet though

Ok - I'm in too. Not sure about the husband though as he's coming back from HK at 6am that day. If I bring the hund, then I am taking the bus with Pootle (she's too small to walk up some of the steep parts and she's too heavy to carry for an hour up a hill).

Good news! The weather reports have been upgraded a little for the end of the week. I'm seeing 18 degrees with scattered showers for
Andechs on Saturday. To me, 18 is a whole lot better than 15!
(I'll only be coming if the weather looks to be relatively decent. I don't get an all-day pass very often, and would rather use it for a nice-weather outing.)

I've already got a whole network ticket myself, so no group ticket for me thanks. Might go climbing instead if the weather is good, so it's a maybe I'm there, maybe I'm not type situation.

Well, the hike back down the hill from
Andechs takes, what? 45 minutes? Then, we will have just missed an
S-Bahn, so we'll have to wait 19 minutes for the next one. The trip back to Munich and then on to The Arc takes a little more than an hour.
So, bluedave, all together, if you don't drink beer on the return trip, you'll have about 2.5 hours ohne Bier to refresh yourself before
The Arc festivities!

Sorry to miss everyone, but we won't be going on Saturday to

I've just figured out that I can make it too, so I'll be there. I need to buy a gesamtnetz ticket as well so if anyone wants to share I'll get a partner ticket as well. Of course you'll have to leave when I do but I imagine we'll all leave together, oder?

Andechs-newbie question:
Is this a hiking-boots mud-and-roots trail or a paved, hiking-autobahn?
Owain Glyndwr
Apr 20 2006, 8:34 am
hiking boots not necessarily needed but good comfortable shoes for the trail that can withstand getting a bit muddy. It is a good trail but not paved.
luckwad
Apr 20 2006, 8:34 am
it's certainly not a clean, paved, you-could-go-kart-up-there kinda hike, but there are pretty open, clear paths. Probably don't need to whip out the hiking gear, but comfy sneakers are a must.
Crawlie
Apr 20 2006, 8:36 am
Ah yes. The hike up to
Andechs. I remember last year. bonnydebbie turned up in high heels and in felt like the place was about to close for the evening by the time we got up there. She almost gave up twice on the way but Wifey and I managed to persuade her to carry on

Looks like you might be better off taking the bus back to the station. Don't need to add another number to the "Lost Hikers" sign...

@OG
Well not paved after the first 20min or so, but it is compacted rock/dirt most of the way up the mountain..

don't forget the trail is likely to be wetter and muddier than most people remember from last summer due to the amount of snow and rain we've had.
