Looks like you might be better off taking the bus back to the station. Don't need to add another number to the "Lost Hikers" sign...
I shall be using the bus both ways mate, the last few hundred metres up the side of the Eiger is enough to create a thirst for a mass

ach, feck, now i'm being nagged about how nice the weather is and that we should go to the garden centre and why do i want to go to
Andechs anyway, etc, etc. gah! you see, that's the problem with pregnancy, your life is no longer your own and it's course is dictated by the hormonal whims of your wife. i'm going to have to play this one by ear but i'm afraid my ear may be twisted
grazzenegger, this is EXACTLY the time you need to be going to Andechs. If you think your life is no longer your own with pregnancy, wait till you have an infant.
I haven't been to Andechs for almost two years now and can't wait!
Go to the garden centre when it's raining.

so the meet up time is 10:15am at
Hauptbahnhof, does this mean people are planning to be on the
S-Bahn that departs at 10:27 or do we need extra time to wait for stragglers? The next one departs at 10:47.
Crawlie
Apr 20 2006, 10:36 am
Plan is to send as many as possible on the 10.27 and then the stragglers go on the later ones.
Owain Glyndwr

ok, we are planning to leave directly from

Well due to the cooperation of the sun...hubby and I will be going too.
However, we will be doing the LONG hike (4 hours) to
Andechs to really earn our beer
Probably meet up with the already overly imbibed group around 2 pm.

Some of us wimps that don't get up early and want to do St Georges party at
The Arc later too been talking about arriving a little later, say about 2pm in
Andechs, anyone else want to join us überstragglers ?
Presume best train for this would be about 12.47 from HBf although i will pick it up at
Ostbahnhof or Rosenheimer.

We take the train one stop past Starnbergersee. You would never know there is a trail, as it is essentially unmarked. Not a hard hike, but nice and varied. Starts out through some woods, then you walk over some fields with beatuful views of the lake and mountains, past a horse training area and a few small towns with a BIO farm you can visit and have lunch, then back into the woods and up to Andechs.
Takes about 4 hours walking at a good clip. The only real hills are in the beginning and once you get towards
Andechs. By those last steps up, it is only the beer keeping me going!

Apr 20 2006, 12:16 pm
I've just added hubby to my reservation and have added the comment "gen is buying a bayernticket and will have it at the train station". We'll buy our ticket in advance so that we can use it for the bus to the train station. If three people want to sign up to be the other people for our BayernTicket, then they can change their comment to read "gen's bayernticket for me too please" or another such witticism. As long as "gen" is the first word, you'll be alphabetically sorted next to my signup, and then everyone can see how many tickets will be necessary.

Allershausen
Apr 20 2006, 12:34 pm
As I mentioned earlier I will be buying a gesamtnetz ticket, so if I get a partner one, 4 other people can travel on it. So if you do as Gen said, but of course use Allershausen, then you'll be sorted. A partner ticket cost €17, so divided by 5 thats only €3,40 each.

Apr 20 2006, 12:44 pm
Aha, good point - we're getting the Bayernticket (25€) because I'm taking the bus up to
Andechs instead of walking as I'm on crutches. So maybe bus people sign up with me.
Oh this is quite fun being organized.

nope, bus is a completely private line so no
MVV passes will help you out there. 2.20euros apiece to be a deserter and ride.

From the Regionalbus 951 timetable:
QUOTE
So IsarCards and weekly/monthly Ausbildungkarten are valid on the private buses between
Andechs and Herrsching, other MVV tickets are not. Doesn't say anything about Bayern Tickets.
MVV and DB tickets are valid on the 951, but there are just three buses a day. For a timetable, type in '951'
here.
That's my understanding, anyway.
Ooh, but there's another bus that also goes right to the Kloster --
MVV 951... checking it out now...

Why is this event not listed on the home page?
just curious...second class event or what?
ummm... maybe because it's an outing / meetup and not a "public" event that you just show up to? Maybe because... there's a signup sheet? And it's just for TT and associates... Just guessing though, maybe Bob will weigh in.
Oh wait, found it myself:

All right, I'm going to get a
Gesamtnetz MVV Tageskarte as well, like Allershausen -- it also takes 5 people but neither it nor the Bayernticket takes us on the bus, so it's just 8 Euros cheaper.
