the union bosses here tend to prefer to channel their members into stunts

Cunning ones?

The leaders of Verdi are cunning stunts, doing their best to hold back the strikes for workers interests like most union leaders.
As told to me by a Verdi member mate of mine!

There's a demonstration right now on Grasserstrasse which means that the Hackerbrücke is temporarily closed to traffic.

Edit: and it's really loud!!

The demo has passed (not sure in which direction) and the road has opened up again for traffic. It was to do with the Detusche Telekom.

And yet another demo (seems to be once a week) - people walking, blowing whistles, carrying banners (one said something about a Dobermann and Arbeitsplätze). The demo last week was all on bikes so it passed rather quickly. Police escort every time.

Maybe it's related to being allowed to bring dogs into work.

That sounds like it was the demo organised by ATTAC against G8 when they expected people to put flags on their bikes from non-participating countries.
All nice and respectable, they tried to stop some people I know riding along as they declined to wave a state's flag and were wearing black t-shirts.

Dobermann is a pun with Rene Obermann's (Telekom CEO) surname.
