Just got this and thought i had to share it with you all
Now the thing is i know for a fact that all the guys would love this but would some of the girls have a problem with it like the guys do with the current one ?

what dinosaurical guys have a problem with the current film? - I certainly don't!

@BtC - I'm afraid that TTM is sometimes prone to the odd 'old fashioned' viewpoint from a small minority of the guys (not Bluedave I hasten to add), though with Schotte I think it's an honestly held opinion.
I saw Brokeback Mountain and thought it was bloody brilliant - those who don't watch it are missing out on a great and very moving film.

I think there are more homophobes on TT than Schotte, actually.
I don't see really why this thread has to be turned into a personal attack on Schotte, what has he got to do with it?
Jimbo
Mar 23 2006, 11:38 am
He's the most openly homophobic man I've ever encountered, and quite frankly I think that that's a contemptible attitude.

He's Scottish. Deserves everything he gets

I have to say that I don't know and haven't read Shotte's posts so have no reason to criticise him. He's Scottish like me and its sad if he or anyone else hates people like me just because of the gender of my chosen partners. But having said that, is it really appropropriate to lay into him on a thread he hasn't even contributed to?
Topsy
Mar 23 2006, 11:43 am
no it's not
and he's not the only homophobe on TT, Jimbo - i'm not even sure he's the biggest one

ermmm the thread was actually just a very flimsy excuse to post a pic of a fantasy flick that should be made and as quick as poss, the ref to blokes having a problem with the original was inspired by this thread -
Cinema: Brokeback Mountain.
Topsy
Mar 23 2006, 11:47 am
yeah, but it brings out a more interesting question about blokes' attitudes to gay blokes, does it not?

Mar 23 2006, 11:49 am
Discussing the pros and cons of Scottish natives, the relative homophobic tendancies of TT members and the levels of Schotte's cuntishness on this thread is a ridiculous waste of a potentially great discussion. People, get it together, there are much more important questions which need answering. For example, given the cast listing above, who gets it on with whom? I mean I can completely see Jessica Alba and Halle Berry in a very soft and gentle scene whereas the Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johanson linkup is gonna be firey to say the least.
Jimbo
Mar 23 2006, 11:51 am
Fair enough - I'll edit my posts - apologies, I suppose, to Schotte, but I absolutely don't endorse that view nor even accept that it has any validitiy whatsoever.
As to other homophobes on TTM, I can only say that I'm glad that I've not met them.

Let it go Topsy. We're talking frontier lesbianism here. Please don't take that away by trying to have some sort of serious discussion/witch-hunt.

you started the thread, dude - you're the one who asked "would the girls have a problem with this like the guys do with the current one".

For the record, I personally would cast Angelina Jolie in the Jake Gyllenhall role and Beyoncé as Heath Ledger.

I'm not interested in seeing it. Mainly because it was not marketed as a western or a troubled relationship. It was marketed as a gay cowboy movie. The point that it won an Academy award further attests to the fact that it is precisely because of the "gay" aspect that people are paying atention to it. The liberal Hollywood feels so smug and wordly when they praise a film because they believe it to be crossing boundries or bringing forth a new understanding. This hypocritical view is why I will not watch it. Which is also regretful, because I believe Ang Lee is extremely talented and I loved, The Ice Storm and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And knowing that he directed this makes me know that it will be well done and well crafted, but when the purpose (at least in the marketing) of this film is as I mentioned beforehand, I am not in the least interested.
But Brokeback Mountain 2 on the otherhand looks quite interesting, as I can see the interpersonal relationships would be tested to a much higher degree.

so, just because it has the word gay in it you are boycotting it? Even though you acknowledge Ang Lee is superb and the film will therefor be well done. Do you boycott anything that mentions or depicts gay men?

I could careless about it having gay men or not. What I don't like is that is why it is being marketed and praised for this reason. That it is "breaking ground", which by doing this it actually is creating the boundry.

Gayness aside Bokenm it's a good film - well worth a watch. Though I must admit, the sequel's shaping up to be even better.

surely that is just the stupidity of reviewers or US marketing? They make a big thing about it being groundbreaking because, relative to their own sublimated prejudices, it is actually groundbreaking. Though I would actually hazard that the gay thing cost Brokeback the best film oscar (it was transparently a far superior film to Crash) so not everyone necessarilöy touts gayness as a positive.
IMHO, the film is good in its own right and is more about honesty and self-knowledge, two universals, than anything integral to being gay.

"But...but...it feels so good"

Theres nothing wrong with homophobia when someone holds it, or even expresses it, as a personal opinion, provided they arent expressing it illegally by say bashing anyone. There are a lot of very legitimate reasons for someone having homophobic viewpoints, particularly religous ones.

1. Schotte is a wind-up merchant, not a homophobe
2. Whether Brokeback Mountain is any good or not has fuck all to do with whether it depicts homosexuals or not.
3. Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johanson would be sooooo hot together!
Jimbo
Mar 23 2006, 1:51 pm
1. I'm not sure - it's too far for a wind up.
2. Agreed. It's a love story and even if it was two really ugly people, possibly even two people from up North, it would still be good.
3. Perhaps you'd like to expand on that, if possible with photos.
