Via Ananova:
Hospital for the broken-hearted.
QUOTE
A hospital clinic for the broken-hearted has been set up in Germany to give emergency treatment to those who have been dumped.
Set up by Munich-based Dr Birgit Delisle, the clinic in the Schwabing Hospital is aimed primarily at love-sick teenagers who do not know how to cope with a broken heart.
"Having your heart broken can lead to physical and psychological problems, from loss of appetite which leads to sudden weight loss to unbelievable pain that drives many people to take drastic measures."
The free clinic in the Bavarian capital will have experts on hand to advise both sexes on how to cope with being single.

The free clinic?!
Free to go there, but it ain't free to run is it. Brilliant waste of somebody's money, chucking it at pathetic depressed teenagers who are really upset that the note they passed to their friend to pass to their friend's friend declaring undying love for that person's best friend, was screwed up and thrown in the litterbin at breaktime before double maths.
Pathetic.

I don't know how any of us survived puberty without it.

Actually, I know a person who didn't. He committed suicide over a girl. Sad fact, and it nearly destroyed his family. If it can help people like that, I'm all for it.

It's only open on Tuesdays for four hours in the afternoon?! Is that the time when teens most often dump each other?

Actually, I'm totally missing the place on the website where "being dumped" is mentioned as the main focus. I suppose it comes under "relationship advice", which is a stated aim, and has just been picked as a good journalistic hook.
Other aims mentioned (under "Warum" and "Was" on the site) include advice on contraception and STDs, questions about sexuality and sexual development (physical and emotional), info about physical examinations, advice about unwanted pregnancy and help for victims of physical and sexual abuse. They also carry out preliminary medical examinations (with smaller instruments than usual). So basically a sexual health clinic for 10-18 year olds, addressing their specific needs.
All of which sounds thoroughly worthwhile to me - shame it's been misrepresented in the article.

In which case it should really be open more than just one afternoon a week.

Agreed. But perhaps it will eventually, if demand is high enough.

on the contrary, this seems a very foresighted and costeffective preventative strategy as teenage suicides cost billions of euros every year in Europe in emergency treatment including longterm rehabilitative care. Since lovesickness is one key cause of teenage suicides then all well and good. If they could match this also with clinics for bullied, childabused and gay teenagers that would account for the four biggest groups of youth suicides.

have just re-read the bit about the clinic and realised it does cover all four of the prime causes of teenage depression and self-harm so I applaud it wholeheartedly.

Why call it First-Love though and not just Love-Ambulanz? I think this might put teenagers off going there. it's a great idea but will someone who is completely heart-broken actually feel the need to go there?
