Everyone in Munich is on Crutches. Why?

All walking funny. Or is it just me?

Ok, this is a weird question, but has anybody noticed how there are a large amount of people on crutches in Munich? And also without crutches but with strange problems with their legs. It looks like they are trying to walk on the tops of their feet.

I'm not being an ass-hole, but I've never seen this before and I'm curious. Is it:

a ) skiing injuries?

b ) polio or some other type of disease that I'm ignorant of?

c ) just a strange trend or my imagination?

PS this may be partially motivated by pains in my legs over the last few days.

Amazingly I was just thinking the same thing yesterday.

My only thought though was how the crutches are completely different then those I'm used to seeing and, in fact, look more uncomfortable than just not using them at all. The upside though is they come in many fashionable colors other than your plain ole tan wooden under the armpit variety.

Some young people I would guess have skiing injuries and therefore get plenty of pity from members of the opposite sex for hurting themselves in such a cool way so I don't think begrudging them is out of line.
However, I agree that I see more people limping on those crutches than anywhere else I have ever lived. I also see a lot of people with one eye bandaged up too. Could be the water here.?. blink.gif

Another story from the last generation tells of people in Germany who either lost an arm or a hand in the war or had it paralized or something and then put a black glove where the hand would be so that
1) people would know not to expect them to use it
2) as a proud reminder to others that they served and were injured and
3) a silent political testimony of some sort

I acted this out once on stage (at the bayerische staatsoper) where my character, who was a rough german fighter type, had one limp arm and a black glove. I was told that many of the people in the audience would instantly identify with the symbol.
See, in the US we would instantly think Michael Jackson.

yes yes yes!! I mentioned this to my friends when I moved here last July, as it was one of the first things I noticed... They told me I was imagining things. I've long since stopped noticing..

Then again, I hadn't really had the opportunity to live in a large metropolis w. a pub trans system (in which you're exposed to all sorts of people), so I figured it was mere naeivity..although perhaps I was wrong.. They have many distinctly odd gaits. Is it this way elsewhere in Europe?

We also moved here in June last year and I said the same thing "what's with all the crutches".

I came up with a theory that the doctors get a commission from each crutch they prescribe. So hey you got Pink Eye...well you need cruthes for that, Oh cut you're finger did you...cruthes. rolleyes.gif

Hey Profundo, the Gloved One had a WHITE sparkly glove, not a limp black one. Or are you referring to skin color? Erm... well probably not...

Anyhow I had to be on those weirdo crutches for two weeks and you cannot go fast on those things. The tan underyourarm kind I could go pretty darn quick on (two months' practice) and whip around to slam into swinging doors to open them and shock everyone who thought that someone on crutches was helpless and needed doors opened for them... which actually you do if they open towards you, that is a real pain.

And just to head off inquiries, no I never did mistake outswinging for inswinging while heading at it at top speed.

Weird gaits? Haven't noticed, but at the Behörden there are sometimes a higher proportion of disabled, because the government's serious about employing people who can do any desk jockey work fine and just happen to walk funny. A-C at the Ausländerbehörde in the Poccistrasse is one, he was really friendly and funny too, told us WHY he needed the various forms etc. and really made sense of it all.

Tja, maybe some of this should go on another thread? but what is a thread worth if it doesn't get off topic...

Cruches? I keep seeing preggy women everywhere... I wonder what THAT means? ohmy.gif

Well, let me explain that one to you. You see, when a man and a woman love each other... (...) wink.gif

btw, at Andechs yesterday there were crutches everywhere.
Could be that the regulars regularly fall down drunk.?
