Hi everyone.

I'm gonna be moving to Munich in September/October to start at Ludwig Maximillians uni. (Doing an exchange year) And I was basically wondering if anyone here can give me some info on it.
I know all the technical stuff (courses etc) from the info on the LMU website, so Im really looking for opinions/experiences of it.
Also if anyone knows anything about the student accommodation that would be really helpful. (maybe some photos?)

Any info would be great!

Cheers,

Jenni

Did Erasmus last academic year out at TUM in Garching. Ace year, best choice you could have made going to Munich smile.gif

What are you doing at LMU?

I stayed at Olympic Park student place, there was some studentenwerk form to fill out and I got put there which was awesome. 230 euros a month as well so pretty cheap in comparison to some mates who werent so lucky.

LMU stammtisch on thursday is awesome, I cant remember the exact street just now but its near Giselastrasse UBahn, ill find out later. there is a website for that too.

any questions, just ask. (did some of the LMU exchange organised stuff) i'm very jealous!

Cool smile.gif
I'm really really looking forward to it. Can't wait to get to Munich.
I'll be doing mostly history courses at LMU, and hopefully German as a Foreign language and maybe English lit (just me being a slacker and picking something that might be easy!)

Whats the accommodation like? To be honest I'm assuming it cant be much worse than the first year flats I was in...that place was a hole!

Stammtisch sounds great smile.gif

Thanks for all the info smile.gif

All the halls I saw in Munich were significantly nicer than scottish uni halls... smile.gif

mine was just a bog standard room but had a little (ok tiny) kitchen, entirely plastic shower room and a balcony overlooking oympia stadion.. if you find out where you will be I will let you know what its like if i happen to have been there! some mad parties at various halls so its possible...

there was some orientierungsmonat put on for us TUMis, there must be an equivalent for LMU which you must go to. it lasts about 3 weeks right before semester starts.

You aren't with the Lewis & Clark Program by chance, are you?

edit: nevermind, I just caught that you were Scottish.
perdido
Lewis and Clark Intl studies program is through them Kaiser?

Oohh that sounds pretty damn cool. A balcony overlooking the olympic stadium sounds a lot better than a tiny window looking out onto the cowgate in Edinburgh. When I find out where I'm gonna be I'll let you know and you can give me some insider knowledge wink.gif

I'm pretty sure there'll be some sort of orentation week, just waiting for the info from LMU to make sure.

But nope, not with the Lewis and Clark thing, just an Erasmus exchange.

justanothername I think you are seeing one of the big hazards of living in munich. coming home drunk and posting random stuff rolleyes.gif my fiance did an exchange in regensburg and had a blast. Thats how we met actually. All the erasmeth students had a blast. I am sure you will too. welcome to Toytown by the way.

if you watch some footage of the 1972 Olympic hostage crisis in Munich you'll see your place - they use the old Olympic village. Fairly basic, but usually comparable or better than many UK places

Guthrie Street? That place is cool and very handy for the Royal Mile and Grassmarket though. The LMU flats here are considerably more distant from watering holes and the centre than a room overlooking cowgate
JustAnotherName
Yup! Guthrie Street is the one. It was a pretty damn good location, cant argue about that.
But it may well be good for my liver being a bit further from the bars...it took some bashing! wink.gif

I'll keep an eye out for that footage though. Thanks for the info smile.gif

here are some links to pics

aerial view
(ignore the fluffy bunnies and screaming brats (sorry, lovely, cute little kiddies wink.gif ) and scroll down quite a way until you see the Olmypic village picture)

wackily painted flat
(not sure that this is really typical though)
