Hey, I'm leaving next week and I need to de-register. Does anyone have any info for me? Any help from the TT professionals would be highly appreciated.
Thanks,

de-registering is easy. fill out the "Abmeldung" form and take it to the KVR or even mail it in.
KVR = Kreisverwaltungsreferat
Ruppertstrasse 19, Munich
U-Bahn U3 or U6 South to Poccistrasse

Can I just fill out the de registration form and mail it in then?
EDIT: Oops, the form instructions say...
"Print them, add your signature and then send them to our offices or submit them personally during office hours"
Nevermind...

I went on friday morning to de-register and it only took a couple of minutes, but later on that night a mate told me he de-registered as well but he had to fill out a couple of forms and also it cost him €15!
I don't want to leave without de-registering properly! Does anyone know what the story is with de-registering?

It is just a couple of forms! It doesn't cost anything!

de-registering shouldn't cost you anything. you can get the
change of residency forms on the internet and post them in, or go to a
Meldestelle and fill in the form in person. takes about 5 mins and is not as bad as going to poccisstrasse to get your green card (residency permit) which can take all morning. dunno why your friend was charged 15 euros...

I'm moving out of Munich/Germany, is there a way to de-register with the city of Munich via the internet or do I have to go back to the Ausländerbehörde in person. Does anyone know? Thank you in advance.

One can do the Abmeldung via post or personally. Unfortunately there's no possibility of doing it online as they require your signature on the document.

For US citizens, after you de-register, how long can you stay in Germany? Would there be any problems if you left the country and came back after de-registering?

Once you have de-registered you become a tourist, so any tourist restrictions apply (which may include a visa if your nationallity requires it). In most cases you can stay for up to 3 months as a tourist. Same applies if you subsequently return...

Thanks for the info - do you know if the 3 month window takes into account any time that I was here before I registered?

Why not de-register by post once you've left? I just posted my Abmeldung this morning (from London). Just be slightly creative with the dates and you'll be fine.

they really don't like you to hang around if you're not registered or do not have a visa to stay if you were already here and had one before.
i had a visa, it expired, i stayed on for another 90 days and the registration office came looking for me!
i played dumb and said, oh i thought i had a 90 day tourist visa and they said alrighty, but after 3 months we will send the police to find you if you do not renew your visa or leave.
if you deregister and move to another town, you have 2 weeks to tell your new town you are there. but if you deregister, then go home to the u.s. for say, a few months, then you can come back to germany. no probs. but registration does not equal visa.

The day you de-register is treated like the first day you entered the country for tourist purposes... You should sure your re-registration is complete, any you shold not engage yourself in any work-related activities, or any other activities that require special permission or permit. Hanging around in bars is allowed...

Does anyone know if I can simply mail this in and have it sent back to my address here in Munich (from which I am supposed to be de-registering) or to my office? If so, what is the turn around time needed to get the confirmation?

Hi,
I thought I had all the paperwork done when I left Munich, but apparently the Finanzamt wants to know more about my departure from Germany. The questions are pretty easy except for two things. I was wondering if someone knows what it means or how I should fill that out.
1. Has anybody heard of an "Empfangsbevollmaechtigten"? It seems like it's a person that can do something on behalf of me, because if I check the box at Yes, they ask to fill out a name and an address.
2. Related to the above issue, if I say No, I have to fill out another piece of paper where I have to assign somebody as a "Steuervollmacht" or an "Empfangsvollmacht". I have no idea what it is, or what the difference is.
kathie
Mar 20 2005, 7:56 pm
a Vollmacht gives somebody else the authority to do everything you're allowed to do, so if you gave somebody else vollmacht over your bank account for example, they would be allowed to go in and take money out, perform transfers etc. An Empfangsvollmacht authorises somebody to receive something on your behalf. The second point seems very odd and I'd probably need more info to help you on that one...

What they might be looking for is, if you nolonger have a bank account in German, (To send refunds) who do they cut a check to...

I'm not sure if that's good advice. They clearly want you for something. maybe they reviewed your last return and want to change it. This might be to your advantage or against it, but if you owe them money and they can't recover it you may become a marked man next time you enter Germany. Of course, if you never plan to visit (even as a tourist) Germany again, then you can forget it... Of yourse if they owe you money, then that's not something you might want to ignore...

Dudes,
Moving home next month and will need to deregister at some point. Is there any time frame that i need to be aware of to do this? Meaning, with a month to go can I de-register now or should I wait for a few days before I leave? Thanks for help.

Alright...it appears that one needs to do it within a week of leaving. Cheers!

No probs
The
KVR won't accept your 'Abmeldung' more than 7 days in advance.
My b/f handed his Abmeldung in about 9 days before the date he wanted to de-register and they asked us to change the date on the form.

I've been told you can deregister over the internet- so you don't have to be in the country. Does anyone know how to do this? Know the website?
Thanks

Does anyone know about mailing in the form? I mailed my in about 6 weeks ago from Canada and haven't gotten anything back. I should be expecting a stamped copy that I have deregistered, right?... I desparately need this to cancel some of my contracts in German. And being in Canada isn't helping the situation any more.
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks so much.

It says on the form (or at least in the notes to the form) that all Abmeldungen will be schriftlich bestätigt, i.e. they'll send you a written confirmation. Why didn't you call them at least 2 weeks ago? If you do decide to call them, as them how long the current wait is (wie lange dauert die Bearbeitungszeit für solche Abmeldungen?), or more direct 'wie lang muss ich noch warten?'.

In muenchen.de you can find the
KVR website. There under the An-, Um-, and Abmeldung section there is this email address for questions: buergerbuerozwst.kvr@muenchen.de. Also there is a call center number: (089) 233-96000. You could also read the
Abmeldung Hinweise for general information (in German) on how to go about the abmeldung.
Edit: UA got it first, so maybe this one can be removed?
Edit bis: Ok, then we leave it here.

Fabulous, thanks!
I just called them, and actually spoke to a women who knew enough German... they actually don't mail the letter to an address outside of the country. Once I explained my situation, she said she would put it in the mail.
Hope this info helps others in the future.

I need to deregister now that my work contract in Germany has ended. I'm familiar with the Pocci. building but was wondering if it is okay to simply show up there, grab a ticket and speak to someone about the forms that need to be filled out?

If you send the forms by post, do you also need to include the form you previously filled out to register? I vaguely remember having to bring this along the last time I deregistered (that time was in person)...
Also, I've heard that you MUST give a new address (so, that would be a foreign address) even if you are off traveling for a long time and so have no address! Anyone know much about this???

Hi, I'm leaving Germany in a few days and want to deregister. I understand from this discussion that I can send the Abmeldung form in up to 7 days before I leave ? I hope this is true as I want to do it before I leave. However, does anyone know what I should do with my Aufenthaltserlaubnis. It expires in March 2008 but do I have to send it back with the Abmeldung form ? I can't find any information anywhere on this subject. Thanks !!!

Does anyone know how long you can stay after deregistration in Gemrany?
My question is specifically targeted to citizens of POOR countries who need a visa to enter Germany.
Is there any waiting period for that?

OK folks, I have a confession... I left Munich in October 2007 and never de-registered! Do you think I should back date my forms? I have copies of my plane ticket home, and the stamp in my passport showing my exit stamp to include...
So anyway on to my next question... I printed off the Abmeldung papers and am having a little trouble... the instructions in English are NO help! There are several pages of Abmeldung forms and I have no idea which ones to fill out. Any advice??? I have read through this entire thread and still am confused. :-)
