Telegraph: German prostitutes to retrain as nurses for elderly QUOTE
Prostitutes in Germany are being given the chance to retrain as geriatric nurses with the help of the Church and EU funding.
The scheme will help plug a chronic shortfall in nurses as well as offering an alternative to prostitutes who find themselves in an overcrowded and increasingly dangerous trade.

I think this is simply fantastic. I bust my neck once, and was consequently rather immobile and bedridden for a while. Would have been bloody marvellous to have loads of hookers wandering about the place, although admittedly I was not actually in, or even anywhere near an elderly home at the time, so actually it would not have made a blind stuff of difference.

According to Spiegel the retraining is taking place in Nordrhein-Westfalen and the ladies are being retrained primarily as carers for old people. Apparently it's working fine; one ex-domina says the work she does now - often involving bedpans, nappies etc. plus plenty of listening to people's problems - isn't too far removed from what she used to do. Different work clothing, presumably. The only thing the ladies are not allowed to do is tell their clientele what they used to do for a living, in case the old dears get ideas. One reason for the changeover is the influx of "sex workers" from Eastern European countries plus hard-up women from all walks of life (Spiegel specifically mentions mothers trying to balance the family budget, unemployed academics, schoolkids whose parents can't pay them enough pocket money). Oversupply ruining the market.

On a sincere point I hope that they heavily drug test any candidates for this post (although I sincerely doubt it). Very likely that many of the new nurses will be heavier users of the morphine than the patients - I can see a "One for you , one for me" Homer Simpson type arrangement goin on.

Well they have a choice between being laid off and being retrained.
