Actually the main point of the course was to work on focus. Basically, those that passed the course became so focused they felt that they were the only people around and that they managed to totally block out everybody and everything around them. Amazing. We could actually sense danger and head straight towards it whilst swearing blindly for people to "gerrroutathebloodywayyou**++##''!"$§!"

Read the above posts...
A Bike Permit per Landkreis is 39 Eur a year for adults and 19 Eur For Children over 10 and Free for children under 10. Children are also required to attend a bike safty course at there school before they are allowed to
ride by themselves..
If you live on the border of a Landkreis and regularry ride to work et. in the neighboring LK, then they take
the price down to 29 Eur. In order to get this discount you will need to prove the following:
1. Your place of residence (Your Anmeldung should do)
2. Your work address
3. A letter/report signed by your boss stating the # of times you bike to work.
(They can and do regular spot checks on people, and will issue a fine if you file a false claim to get the discounted price)
Take these Documents and goto the Fahrradamt office at your local
KVR and apply for the permit...

Willy the Whistle has been used in Elementary schools in the US since the late 70's/Early 80's...

Willy Whistle teaches pedestrian safety through two different videos.
"Walking With Your Eyes" is a video about pedestrian safety for older children. This presentation is primarily geared for grades four through six. Through research it was learned that young children up to about the age of seven are frequently involved in pedestrian accidents in which they dart-out into the street without stopping or looking. It the expands the basic advice to cover some more complex pedestrian accident situations encountered by children as they grow older.
"Stop and Look With Willy Whistle" is a video about pedestrian safety for young children from kindergarten through third grade. Accident prevention for this age group is centered on keeping the children out of traffic.
This film was extensively tested to determine its effectiveness in reducing accidents to young children. Results of those tests in cities including Los Angeles and Milwaukee showed a reduction of 30% or more in child "dart-out" accidents.

that's great! hmm i was in school in the 80's (well mid-late) and i've never heard of this AND as for "Dart-out" accidents... when i was in 6th grade i was hit by a car!
i do know songs from volunteering at "Safety Town" (day camp in the am for a week in the summer for young kids run through police dept).
"if it's red on top-stop, stop, stop/
if it's yellow in the middle slow down a little/
if it's green down below- go, go, go"

If this thread should have taught you one thing, it's to think before you post.
The reference to 'summer' was a joke, just like the bicycle permit was.

Here's a related question---on the paths that are shared by pedestrians and bicyclists alike, it seems logical that the peds have the right of way...yes? 90% of the bikes seem to indicate (by cussing, and bell ringing and almost running you and your small children over whilst smiling) that this is not the case. Can someone shed some light here for my benefit, please???

If it's mixed ped + cyclist use, and there is no designated lane, the bicyclists must use the right shoulder only. At least that's what I remember. As some people like to exercise their rights here - if you are offended, feel free to exercise your own rights. The
