Just in case anyone's interested, and knows the Muji shops from Britain or elsewhere, there's one being kitted out in the
Fünf Höfe shopping centre at the moment. Next to Manufactum.

MUJI!
That's great news, I love their shop. I remember when it first opened in Leeds years ago, I even made it to one of their shops in Tokyo last year

Hi
Japanese chain store and marketing phenomenon
MUJI is coming to Munich, opening a store in the
Fünf Höfe complex (just along the same part as
Manufactum.
Award-winning design at not so designer prices, Muji originates in Japan and translates as “No Brand Quality Goods. Founded in 1980 with the basic principle of developing new, simple products at reasonable prices by making the best use of materials while considering environmental issues.
Their online UK catalogue will give you an idea of the product types and prices. Personally I love their organising stuff (the plastic boxes and folders) and their travel gear (refillable bottles, wash bags, luggage).
No confirmation date for the opening as they are building the store but it is certainly
coming soon.
Yeah I know the picture is bloody awful but hey, no picture, no freebies from TTM, so hey, bite meKatrina

What does it say on the Muji poster? Just general info about the shop, or job adverts, or stuff about their plans..?

Do we have the Japanese clothing store (forgot the name - the one in central London) in Munich?
pike
Mar 16 2006, 4:38 pm
If you mean the one I'm thinking of, then yes.
kalidas
Mar 16 2006, 4:41 pm
@pike.
Great. Thanks :-))
What is it called? Where is it?
mothbola
Mar 16 2006, 4:46 pm
@ Kalidas - Isn't it the same name as the one in Cental London.. If so, then it's near that other store which has the same name as the one in East Paris

Muji has clothes too.
Let's see, Japanese clothes shops.. only Yohji Yamamoto springs to mind. And Kenzo.

Thanks.
So where's UNIQLO? It's the clothing counterpart of Muji.
SillyOldSlapper
Mar 16 2006, 5:10 pm
I did not realize
UNIQLOwas part of Muji. I have searched the two companies together on Google and they appear separate - I would love confirmation that it is the clothing part of Muji.
kalidas
Mar 16 2006, 5:14 pm
@SOS
No I didn't mean it's a part of Muji. UNIQLO has low prices as well, so I meant the low-price (clothing)...counterpart. Maybe there's a better way to put it...

you had me all excited then.

It's natural, most people get excited by some "counterpart" or other

Muji originates in Japan and translates as “No Brand Quality Goods”.
"Muji" itself doesn't mean anything. The translation "No brand quality goods" comes from the shop's full name: "Mujirushi Ryohin", which is what it says in Japanese on the logo.
Presumably they abbreviated the name to "Muji" in English to make it easier for non-Japanese to pronounce/remember.

was at the opening - my impression: Muji (or at least the items in the Munich store) is like a more expensive version of
Ikea with the addition of clothing.
the sushi was good though.

Where exactly in the
Fuenf Hoefe is Muji? I walked around Thursday evening and couldn't see it anywhere, nor was it on the map inside, nor is their address on the Muji website... Thanks!
Apart from Rusty has anyone else been yet? What did you think?

Very crowded on Saturday afternoon. Probably to be expected the first weekend after opening.
Prices very high - some items up to 3 times more expensive than the original JPY prices (which are still displayed on the goods).

Apr 24 2006, 8:23 am
That's a shame- it's bog cheap in Japan, a little more expensive in England (but not too bad which was another reason why I liked it) but if it's OTT here I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Malcolm Spudbury
Apr 24 2006, 10:04 am
The price difference varies. Most things were around double, with the larger items being a lot more.
I thought it was quite odd that they left the original prices on - almost like they want to say "Ha! We're ripping you off!"
UrbanAngel
Apr 24 2006, 10:10 am
Yeah they do that in England too - it never bothered me as I didn't know how much 500 yen was, but now that I know I can see how much extra they're charging! It's fair enough to charge a bit extra for shipping etc, but double or triple is a little too extravagant, but hey - they can charge what they want I guess. They're obviously going for a more exclusive image in Europe.

hmmm.. i know it's off topic but is'nt it the same as LUSH? It is a Ripoff with the price differences too. Anyway it was quite some years that i bought Lush stuffs in Singapore before they close down.
