Recipe suggestions for cooking for the in-laws

My mind is simply a blank void today. I have absolutely no feeling of creativity or passion about food, but need to think of something to cook for the bloomin' in laws (which I find myself doing alot)

The sole thought rattling about in ma heed was some sort of thing involving shitloads of prawns and clams and mussels and squid and stuff. Once I start thinking clams, I'm stuck on rails, and cannot think of anything else - which is my current problem. Sister in law don't like shellfish atall.
Now, I could simply cook her something different, but sods law clearly dicates that if I do that, everybody will want what she's 'aving.
Bloody picky eaters, get on my nerves.

So what do I do? Anything interesting in seaon down at the butchers right now? (I've been stuck in snowy Garching without venturing into town of late) I don't mind doing something quite time consuming, in fact I'd prefer it, because spending time over the stove is preferable to the other option of engaging in mindless chit-chat with the rellies. I've got posh shit like fois gras, truffles, loads of saffron etc, so poncy things with truffle sabayons or saffron jus could be on the cards.

Please inpire me.

what, and you're asking us?

i'm thinking oriental style fish cakes for dindins tonight with a nice lightly spicy tomato type sauce and crispy, fresh steamed greens.

you know me, the casserole kid, so can't really come up with anything mad and extravagant.

Are the in laws german?
Katrina
Would she eat fish instead of shellfish? Sardines are in season aren't they?
grazzenger
shall i hobble downstairs and get my tuscan cookbook? there's some mad stuff in there.

"The Emotional Cook", a cookbook I have that has menus based on your emotional state suggests for feeling Bored: Spiced Aubergine, Tricky Quail, and Salad with Poppy Seed Dressing. I'd adjust that to do a really interesting twist on a chicken roast, as I don't know how many quails you can find around your parts.
Bubble Gum
Why don't you cook Italian food? German's love that stuff. Pizza or pasta or gnocchi or something.
Rus
If they are german I would go for something very british.
If you have some Fois Gras why not a beef wellington which is great for these harrible days

Most game is now out of season, you could still get duck or venison (venison is until end of the month) I guess.
I've just thought, maybe Frischling is exactly the right thing for you, don.
Young wild boar aged under a year old, that's certainly available (and very tasty too).
More flavour than standard pork, less gamey than full-grown.
You could pitch a Tuscan-styled meal around it.
grazzenger
right, back with the mad book -

a la katrina - boar in a sharp, sweet sauce
loads of rabbit dishes
lamb's pluck
tuscan pig's liver
chicken underneath a brick
or good old - calf's udder with savoury sauce
Eleanor Rigby
This is probably way beneath you but if you've got all that saffron why not make a seafood paella? Then the sister in law can just pick out the shellfish and still have a nice meal.
Memo
Cook something with cannabis and make everyone happy.

Phone for a pizza, shout "Right you shower of miserable charisma vacuums, I'm fucking offski. Pizza's on the way and don't drink all my Weißbier...Ta-ta wankers!" as you head out the door and come meet us for a few scoops at the Jolly Jester.

Note: There is no licensed premises in Munich trading under the name Jolly Jester. The reference was made as it seemed appropriate in the context. Actually the original Jolly Jester that I referred to is situated in Portugal. Oftimes renamed the Jelly Joister after about 6 too many. Anyway, don't read too much into it. In fact, stop reading now.

The Jolly Jester (sort of) is in Covent Garden - lovely for a beer in the summer that place. Too many arty cunts about though - Don wouldn't like it.
EDIT: As for food, do a nice prawn curry mate. Mmmmm.
Rus
Arent you thinking of Punch and Judys?

Can normally get french quails in Kaufhof I think. Viktualienmarkt also when in season. Makes me think of an orange & whisky sauce. I really do not know why.

Wierdly, I was just talking on the phone about some shin of veal braised in madeira or something, with a mustard sauce, and also carrots.

Yes - that's exactly where I'm thinking of - 'Jolly Jester' just reminded me of it. God knows why, really.
