This evening
Bayern Munich will be taking on AC Milan in the second leg of Champions League knock-out round action! After drawing 1-1 in Munich 2 weeks ago, the boys in red (maybe sporting gold jersey's tonight) have a tough battle ahead of them in Milan.
Click here for more details. Also playing tonight is Arsenal vs Real Madrid, Liverpool vs Benefica, and Lyon vs PSV.
I'll be at GMs tonight watching the game. Since last night was so packed, I will be arriving to Murphy's particularly early to secure seating. Post here if you plan on attending. I'll also look into reserving a table if there is a large enough group, but this of course depends on which screen they show the game. I plan on arriving around 6:30pm. More details to follow...
Why would
GM's show the Bayern game?
You can go to any bar in Munich to watch that.
Surely they will have the Liverpool and Arsenal games on
last I knew, they are not taking resevations for football games anymore (people seem to assume the reserved signs are only for the tables, do not include chairs... next thing you know, the table is still there, with the sign, but all the chairs are gone...), but you shouldnt have a problem getting a table at 6:30pm...

It's nice to focus on one game, and then be able to check out scores and highlights from the other football action as it happens.

bye bye Bayern, they will lose this evening, and join Juve and Barca in the next round.
Unless Liverpool can start scoring goals, unfortunately Liverpool will also be going out. They create, but just cannot score ! As for Arsenal, this is Liverpool from last season all over again, cannot win in the League, but beat some bloody good teams in the Chumps League. Hope they put Beckham and Co out this evening !

Bayern-Milan match has BORING written all over it. And Benfica plays this scrappy football which makes it sooo irritating to watch. The onus is on Liverpool to go on and win it, IF (as pointed out by pepper) they manage to score. Going by their performance in the last match against charlton (I think Liverpool had around 20 attempts on the Goal to Charltons zero, and still didnt manage to score) its seems like a very difficult task indeed.

The other game, the Arsenal - Real game, should be very very interesting. But going by the way Real are playing these days, only a catastrophic mistake by Jens Lehmen (something similar to the one made by the Brehmen keeper yesterday, which btw was absolutely hilarious) would let Real win this tie. But this is the game I really want to watch and hope that somehow Arsenal get knocked out

. But in Murphy's the Arsenal game is being shown on the small TVs and the Liverpool one on the Big Screen. Any idea if anyother bar is showing this match on Big screen ?? What about the Arc? Which match are they showing on the BIG TV?

I've been trying to call GMs to confirm which games will be on which screens. From
their website it looks like Liverpool gets the big screen, and Bayern gets the small screen. If that is indeed the case, I would still aim to arrive at GMs around 7:30PM so as to secure a stool, perhaps near the well. From that vantage point you can see all three games simultaneously.
I'll be there sporting my Pizarro jersey...

OK Benitez. Time to cut your losses and get rid of the entire front line (except Crouch) and go out to find strikers that can actually score goals. Now, I do not mean strikers that have the occasional shot saved because it was too close to the keeper or they hesitated too long or the shot went just wide. No. I mean SCORE. Those posty things with that netty thing is called a goal and one must put the ball past the opposing keeper into it to score and, hopefully, win games like we should have done last night, or Saturday or 2 weeks ago or or or or or.
Very very poor performance indeed and no wonder they went out quite tamely in the end.
Morientes - Does he actually remember what it is like to score goals? I am beginning to thihk he is actually being bribed by the opposition.
Crouch - Will always be supporting striker and had decent chances last night but, once again, close is not close enough
Cisse - Just leave. No doubt you will go back to France and score hundreds of goals so do it. Go.
Fowler - Beginning to have doubts although you are still God. Maybe next year eh?
The only positive about last night was the look on the Germans faces when Bayern lost 4:1. That made it all a little easier to take...

Unfortunately I have a lot to do with our office in Barca, and well the Catalans are (which is hard to believe I know) more arragant that the Baverians. These people actually believe Barca is the best team in the world, when you have to remind them that well how many times have Madrid won the European Cup ? oh and how many times have they won it ?
Interesting that Beckham was the only Englishman playing in London last night !

Its because more of the after years of the Spanish Civil War. The Catalan language was banned untill after Franco's death. So you see a resurgence of national pride. I lived in a Catalan village, and did aquite a bit of recording of family history while there. You hear the pride of their souls through their tounges. F.C. Barcelona is a metaphoric symbol of their resilience to survive through Madrid's arrogance.
Disclaimer This is not meant as an assault upon Madrillanos.

Watching the Liverpool match last night was like watching paint dry, the longer the game went, the less likely they seemed to be to score.
The evening was lightened somewhat by the guy in The Outland taking off his LIverpool jersey and throwing it in the bin as the 2nd Benfica goal went in

Any idea when the draw for the next round is? Is it this Friday or the next ( after the Inter-Ajax game) ??

Barca do not have any advertising on their shirt, much like national teams, and are essentially seen as Catalunya FC. They also do not have great chunks of prime real estate to sell whenever they get into some financial trouble, unlike Real Madrid (who the king of Spain probably gives money to anyway)
visca catalunya - oh, and askatu euskal herria. yeah man.
Bollocks. I hate The Arse. Only English team left in.
Liverpool suffered a total lack of 1. Riise, 2. Hyypia and 3. Owen (or any decent finisher).
At least Boing Munchin' got stuffed.

But Franko was not only against the Catalans, my step-father comes from the area of Spain just north of Portugal, so north west Spain, and Franko was basically against any dialects of Spanish, not only Catalan, but you do not see la Coruna being as arrogant as the Catalans.
But you do see some of the other Basque teams with the same attitude!

Athletic Bilbao, the only other club after Barca and Real Madrid to never get relegated from Spains top flight have a policy of only employing Basque players. Relatively nationalistic viewpoint you must agree. You still get regular riots against Spain in the Basque country, they're more full of pride than the catalans.
