The exhibition displays paintings and woodcuts from artists such as Edward Munch, Paul Gauguin, Emil Nolde and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The paintings are very vibrant in the style of Gauguin and the woodcuts range from intricate and beautiful to borderline harsh and rough. The paintings are interspersed with African sculptures which bring out the exotic influences in the art. There is even a room devoted to Nolde's art and African sculptures and head dressings.
My two favorite pieces which I really liked: A wood cute called "Die Traegheit" from Félix Vallotton and "Tingel-Tangel" from Emil Nolde.
The exhibition is worth seeing in order to get closer to German art, especially if Expressionism is your style. If you enjoyed the Franz Marc exhibit at Lenbachhaus last year, then you will be delighted with this one as well. It runs from now until May 21, 2006.
