No garbage removal 6-10.Mar.2006

Due to snow

Information from Abfallwirtschaft München (German link):

Due to the heavy snows the garbage trucks are not able to access most streets in Munich, or the bins cannot be transported to the streets for pick-up.
If the bins are full you are allowed to stack garbage in proper (= heavy duty, not shopping bags), closed garbage sacks next to the bins. The same goes for organic garbage if your organic bin is full. If your paper bin is full you are asked to bring the paper to the Wertstoffhöfe.
The junk yards (Wertstoffhöfe) will make an exception to the rule and accept household garbage, also in proper sacks.
If you do not want to attract scavengers to your neighborhood (stray dogs, cats, racoons, rats) by putting your garbage next to the bins, store it in your apartment. Word to the wise.

Ours isn't going to be taken until 13th March.
Our notice just said that we could put any closed/tied-up bags next to the big bins, nothing about proper bin bags fortunately smile.gif
It's fair enough I guess, but boy, are our bins going to be full and smelly; just glad it's cold out!

Got to ask - Racoons? In Munich?
Sin
We got a notice downstairs that says next collection on the 14th.

I wouldn't be at all surprised. Seems that Kassel, a city in Hessen, has a huge racoon problem, and there are racoons in the zoo. Now, the zoo is closed due to snow as well, the little buggers don't get fed, wadda they do? Yep, swim out to the Isar and invade Giesing, Au and Glockenbachviertel.

I could agree that there could be raccoons in Munich, but I have to disagree with the closure and not feeding bit. One, the zoo was reopened for business yesterday. Two, just because the zoo is closed to the public, that doesn't mean the animals aren't getting fed. Just in case anyone thinks the raccoons might go and make a break for it.

be happy it's only cancelled for a week! here in Baden-W they are still striking. Mannheim street look disgusting. Thank goodness it's not summer.

Or the elephants. But it seems that they were having snowball fights Monday and yesterday when they took their turns outside.

Update: The tent structure covering the parking lot for the garbage trucks collapsed on Friday, causing slight damage to the trucks parked underneath it. So the garbage removal might take just that much longer due to lack of trucks.
