A brief question for anyone who's on-line this morgen,

What would you recommend as a good electronic store in/nearby Munich. I've heard that there is a large electronics market near the olympic stadium ("MarkoMart" or sometthing similiar), but not sure. Further specifcs on the location of this market or your recommendations of others greatly appreciated.

There doesn't seem to be a MakroMarkt in Munich, although you can order online from them at www.makromarkt.de. There is one in Landshut and in Nürnberg though.

It might be Media Markt that you were told about, which has 4 locations in and around Munich. Doesn't seem to be one right at the Olympic stadium, or the shopping mall near there, the OEZ (Olympisches Einkauf Zentrum). There is one in the Euro-Industriepark, which is also the north end of town.

What is at the OEZ is Saturn, yet another big electronic goods store.

All are reasonably cheap, depending on product.

Saturn at OEZ is dark and dingy, found that the media markt at Leechtenburg Ring was very handy. Good parking (from what I am told) or walkable from the SBahn.

Got my fridge/freezer and dishwasher from them - perfect delivery timing and overall a good service and good price.

Avoid Quelle - its expensive rubbish.

There is one site my colleagues showed me, which you can choose a product and it has price comparisions for online and normal retailers.

Will ask them when I get back to work and post the URL

Happy Shopping

For standard consumer electronics my preference is for Saturn at Schwanthalerhöhe or Media Markt at the Euro Industrie park. For anything more technical you can't beat Conrad Electric. There's one in Tal and a much bigger one across the road from the OEZ.

Many thanks. I'm shopping for a combo fax w/answering machine and a 230VAC to 120 transformer (low wattage). Will try media markt and Conrad's and will see how I fare.

Brgds & Happy Easter.

  • Conrad are expensive, but have a good range of hard to find bits and bobs
  • Saturn (which is really the same as MediaMarkt, as they have the same parent company) have the best range, but their prices are very run of the mill, except for special offers which are usually unbeatable
  • TV2000 are a small version of Mediamarkt
  • Karstadt (remarkably) often have good deals on most consumer electricals. They have a warehouse outlet on the east of Munich city who have regular disposal and end of line sales with VERY cheap prices.
  • For TV, A/V cameras etc., then check out www.netonnet.de who are a Munich based mailorder store with a showroom you can buy over the counter near Frankfurter ring
  • www.guenstiger.de is a good place to look for mailorder sources with best prices for almost anything

Oh and in case anyone's not noticed, Saturn on Kaufingerstr have been having a big sale for the last few weeks. As far as I know it'll run for about another week or so before they do the store up and bring in all the new stock. Lots of White and Brown goods going for very good prices. Also literally thousands of CDs for €3 each. You have to rummage around through loads of boxes but you might find the odd gem amongst the crap.

Stand back all of you and weep when you find out you can buy an EXCELLENT DVD Surround sound 5.1 NTSC/PAL Player (inc MPEG JPEG MP3 etc...) at Sauter near Sendligertor for the wonderful price of just 59 Euro.s

Also on a recent shopping trip I picked up a small vacuum cleaner for 19 Euros from MediMarkt near Leuchtenburg Ring.

I would love to know how come its cheaper to buy these things than a Half Chicken and a couple of ma

What brand/model is it?

DVD players are around under €40 these days (and recorders under €250 too!). Sometimes seems like the packaging is worth more than the system!

Spot on, there is a large portion of the price that goes on the name. Even bloody Tenglemann's have a DVD recorder for €249. I was just curious as I'd like to compare the stats on this system against what I've got myself to see if it really is excellent.
