we were hoping to stay in Marienbad as we are taking the train... is there a Budweiser tour there? is it worth going to as an excursion?

From their website... www.budvar.cz

Surrounded by the aroma of the Moravian malt and Žatec hops you will probe into the secrets of how the world-famous Budweiser Budvar lager is made. You will find out how the best quality domestic ingredients, water drawn from the brewery's more than 300 meter deep wells and top-class brewer's yeast are used to make the beer characterised by its slightly sweet and delicate taste, pleasant aroma of hops and bitterness that is popular with customers in 58 countries throughout the world. The nostalgic beauty of the machinery on display will remind you of the rich tradition of beer-making in South Bohemia, which goes back to the 13th century. Come and see how the centuries of tradition are incorporated in the modern technology producing the Original Czech Premium Lager Budweiser Budvar.

Marianske Lazne is a bit of a boring hole to be honest. Nearby Karlovy Vary has slightly more on offer but is also a bit "chocolate boxy" and full of German daytrippers with prices moved up to match. If you really want to see a Czech spa town, Frantiskovney Lazne is on the outskirts of Cheb which also has a town square and castle worth seeing and is better placed to get by car or train to other places in the Czech Republic.

You can also do beer tours in Plzen which is easier to get to from Munich.

Anyone want any info on Czech Rep or Slovakia, ask away.
