Cancelling a Vodafone mobile phone contract

Advice on getting out early

I have only problems with Vodafone. Since I signed the contract, from my point of view, they have "deceived" me so many times. Some Germans told me that I should just send cancellation letter and not use the phone any more. For the monthly cost, it is possible to take it back within 6 weeks by my request. ( I have checked it with my bank)
I really want to cancel it, but I also am afraid what would happen if I do that... I do not mind of I can ever use Vodafone in the future because I will defently never use it!!!
If you know the best way to cancel and also if you know what happens if I cancel it before 2 years contract is over, please let me know... thanks...(am disparate...I want to get out of this "f" contract!!)

You've signed it and you pretty much have to adhere to that. If you simply don't pay your bill then after a reminder letter or two you will be passed on to a collections agency who will follow up with legal action.

I am with Vodafone for the last three years or so and don't have any particular complaints. I'd be very interested to hear what your specific problems are. Firstly because it may serve as a warning to others and secondly because it may provide people with information that would allow them to advise you better.

As far as I know, the only way to get out of a contract (barring their breaking of the SLA) is to leave the country. Normally if you are leaving and you provide your provider with a copy of your Abmeldung then the contract can be cancelled. I don't know specifically for any particular provider but a headed letter from your company saying that you are leaving Germany might be sufficient for them to do the cancellation.

I suggest you read Cancellation of mobile phone contracts in Germany and Termination of mobile phone contracts in Germany for further information and opinions on the subject.

And I suspect you are probably desperate rather than disparate, but I could be wrong. wink.gif

Thanks keydeck, you are right in most parts and you are right that I am "disparate"! It is a long story...but I try to make it short. When I first signed the contract, the sales man has made me signed with 200 minutes. I told him I wanted only 50 minutes. He told me that I should remain 200 minutes for 3 months so the mobile costs only 1 Euro and them he will change the contract that from the 4th months, it will be 50 minutes. After 4th months, the contract remained the same so I called up Vodafone. I told all the stories and the name of the sales man. After the investigation, Vodafone has changed my contract to 50 minutes. They said my story was credible and the sales man was no longer with Vodafone. NOW, I found out that I have 2 years contract from the time they changed it to 50 minutes. They absolutely did not tell me this when they changed it to 50 minutes. What can I do??!!
If you want to hear more, here is more for you. When went to abroad, I have set up my e-mail to be transfered to mobile. For the setting up, the Vodafone customer service has kindly guided me. Only that she did not tell me there would be this special service which tells me every 30 minutes, "BEEP! you have no new e-mail message received" or "BEEP! you have received a new e-mail message". I have ignored them for about 2 weeks until I was so sick of hearing BEEP sound every half an hour. I called and asked to cancel the service. The bill came with 460 Euros!!! OK, I was stupid for ignoring for 2 weeks but...
Do you want to hear more??! There are more but let's save them for the next time. Cheers,
Grinner
Did you set up your mail re-direction witout reading the T+C..?

If you did, its your own fault.. If you didnt ask about costs.. its your own fault.. As for changing your contract.. 2 yrs is the usual deal in Germany..

Sorry, you must read the small print.. always.

As they say in Germany "Dummheit schütz vor Strafe nicht" - as I was once told after being conned into signing a contract I didn't want...

You live, you learn, put it down to experience...

Having said that, I've been with Vodafone a few years now too and have had (touch wood!) no problems as of yet

Doesn't sound like they treated you particularly badly or deceived you anymore than is normal.

What did you expect? these companies (not just vodafone) make their money by not mentioning what's in the fine print. It's up to you to inform yourself.

As far as I know, the only way to get out of a contract (barring their breaking of the SL) is to leave the country.

I know someone who had signed a 2 year contract with German Vodafone, but 12 months or so into the contract he decided he wanted to go back to UK ( as his work contract was finished). He telefoned Vodafone and they said hed need written confirmation that hes leaving Germany. We went to the Vodafone shop direct with the ammeldung, they foned head office who said hed have to pay the rest amount of what is owing mad.gif (another 12 months pay) and month by month Id receive the confirmation that hed paid. The anmeldung meant bugger all to them so with gritting teeth he paid em. Month by month I received the confirmation that hed paid. until...

It gets worse...the last few months I was recieving letters from Vodafone that there was still money oweing about 20 euros) blink.gif and if he didnt pay up legal action would be taken, the thing is hed paid what they told him to pay (even though he was not supposed to, as he was leaving the country)
I then get a letter from a lawyer saying if the amount hs owes is not paid legel action will be taken
I fone the laywer and tell her Mr xxxx has paid the full amount of what was asked and also hes not even in the DE!
she asked for his address in UK to which i told her i didnt know mad.gif I think it should be him taking Vodafone to court for telling him to pay up

Id never sign another fone contract in germany, mines another story but just as bad

Send a letter by registered mail (Einschreiben mit Rückschein) to their HQ saying precisely what you want and they will bend over backwards to help you...they did for me anyway...couldn't be nice (polite even) enough.

I nearly got boned twice by Vodafone.

The first time I mistakenly signed up for a third line and the salesman refused to cancel it. The second time was when I missed my 90 day cancellation notice at the end of my two year contract by one week.

Both problems were immediately corrected when I faxed/mailed a plea for help to their customer service department.

As much as I would like to hate Vodafone, they did provide good mobile phone service the past two years and while I had to go the extra mile to fix my two problems, they ultimately treated me fairly.

Your mileage, will naturally vary...

Hi,
I have a contract with Vodafone: is it possible to give one-month notice if you are going to leave the country?
Thanks smile.gif

Depends on the contract and when you started it. Most, if not all demand a minimum 24 months. At the end of that time, some renew automatically for a year, others let you cancel at the end of the month. Read the small print.

Hello all,

I have a two year contract with Vodafone that is finishing in a couple of months. I want to terminate the contract and switch to another company as I am VERY disappointed with the service. As the customer service was misleading many times, I would like to know exactly what I have to do in order to finish the contract the same day the two year limit expires.

Thanks,

H!

You'll probably find there's a three-month notice period for the cancellation, after which the contract extends for another year automatically. If you're not yet past this point, a search on 'phone contract' will lead you to a thread with a standard letter template for what you want.

Having just cancelled a contract with them I can confirm Vodafone definitely require at least 3 months notice before the end of the minimum 2-year period.

Thanks for the info!
