Hi first time on Toytown. Scots lady moved to Munich looking to buy a french horn! Can you help?
SleeplessInMunich
If that is a musical instrument then have a look at this: musical instrument stores. There are a few shops mentioned.
Small Town Boy
Well, I think we can safely say that this is the first time that anyone has used their first post to enquire after a French horn.

Welcome to Toytown. Unfortunately, I can't really help you.
Keydeck
Here's a large list of music shops. Apparently you'll be looking for a Waldhörn.
Eleanor Rigby
Be warned, french horns aren't very popular here I don't even know what they're called in German.

EDIT: just looked it up, apparently they're called a "Waldhorn"

My goodness, I didnt realise you guys would be so quick to offer such invaluable advice - not! yes, a french horn is a musical instrument though some folk thing it's something totally different altogether!

Is it any wonder that new people asking questions often get a bit of a bashing with attitudes like that? You have been given plenty of perfectly good advice so you could simply say thankyou. Lists of shops, the appropriate German word, what more do you want? There are a few people on Toytown who play in a Bavarian brass band, i.e. Showem. If and when they see the thread they can probably post some more specific details about recommendations.
Eleanor Rigby
FYI there are no French Horns in aforementioned brass band. As I said, the French Horn is not so common here but I have seen a couple of guys busking with them outside the Gasteig so you must be able to get them somewhere.
Keydeck
True enough, but someone who already plays such instruments (albeit not the one in question) should be in a good position to recommend specific shops.

See also eBay.
Topsy
They've got one at Lindberg
It'll set you back 1.5k€, mind

I'm a musician and was not aware that French Horn was such a rarity here.

Anyway, I got curious and found several listed on ebay.de (under Waldhorn.) You didn't mention whether you're looking for new or used, but you can find either there. Good luck!
gail
Thanks loads, this should get me started. Should probably be more concerned in getting a car rather than a horn but never mind.
Topsy
Nah, you don't need a car in Munich.
Go for the horn, I would...
gail
oh dear, and I thought the 'horn' joke was left in Scotland!
Topsy
I've no idea what you could possibly mean - I was merely suggesting that the purchase of a French horn would be a better use of your hard earned cash than a polluting petrol-guzzler.

Honest.

Get both! If you're new to Munich there's plenty to explore around the outside, having a motor's a good way to get around to obscure places. Skiing's good nearby too!

You could also join a band, I happen to know one where a French Horn would be quite the novelty biggrin.gif

still trying to sell my old car in Uk before I can afford to buy another here! Got some viewers for it this weekend so here's hoping. I'll try out those music shops listed real soon, i need the horn and to get used to it for a competition in April so I'd better get a move on. Just found a number for a horn and tuba center in Eichenau as well.
gail
see you can't talk seriously about having the horn, sorry, I mean about the French horn without some cheeky comment from you lot! Lets forget the french horn and find me a car!!!
SleeplessInMunich
Well after the lovely comments for our help last time, why would we even want to help finding a car?
