BIRD FLU: BE AWARE OF CATS

QUOTE
Dutch scientists warn that cats can also be the carriers of bird flu virus H5N1. Nevertheless, the first case of a cat that died of bird flu has been registered in one of Thailand zoological parks. It had been found out as a result of examination that the ill-fated animals were fed with poultry. And here is the result. From all this foreign scientists suppose that the bird flu infection can transfer from one cat to another. And the management of Yerevan Zoological Park intends to protect its “inhabitants from bird flu by shooting the immigrating birds that will break the “air border.

The moral of the story is: Don't eat dead chickens that have died of bird flu. Easy. Dumb cats.
Crawlie
OK. Shoot all cats. It's the only way to be sure

EDIT. And don't forget. If you see a dead cat anywhere then don't play with it.
Small Town Boy
Or eat it.

I am so lucky! I am just a dawg! Ya think bird flu is bad? The birds got it from fish. It was originally fish flu. But then it jumped species and became a major pandemic amongst out feathery friends. Bird eating fish! OMG!
Grinner
But before the Fish had it, it was known as "Worm flu" details were found Untrue facts

@ KitKat64 - The cat died here in Germany. Bird flu has been found as close as Bodensee already. This thing can spread pretty quickly because birds fly, don't they. No reason for hysteria, but I do think it would be prudent to make sure that Poopy is not out chasing birds right now.
kitkat64
Poopy doesn't get to go out much because 1) she hates the snow and 2) I don't like her to be outside all day long mingling with the farmer's cats. She does like to watch the birds from the balcony and the big windows in the house but she's never caught anything, and I don't think she will with that big 'ol bell around her neck.

So if a cat is within 200 metres of a dead bird then they can be shot? Aha. That could be interesting and well up for serious abuse

True.. But German hunters and Forest Meisters are already being yelled at for shooting 400k cats a year.. And I'm sure the area would have to be Designated a "Vogel/(Cat) Grippe" Area 1st... wink.gif

QUOTE
A German animal welfare organization says up to 400,000 domestic cats are killed by hunters each year -- a number hunters do not dispute.

In Germany, hunters can shoot cats, dogs or any other animal that is a potential threat to wildlife as long as they are at least 220 yards from a built up area, reported the Sunday Telegraph.

Nicole Hallek says she was walking her dogs and her cat in the fields behind her backyard in Augsburg, Germany, when a hunter no farther than 55 yards from her home shot and killed her cat Molly.

The Federal Hunting Law only allows hunters to shoot pets that have gone feral and are living in the wild. The majority of hunters follow this rule responsibly, said a statement by the German Hunters' Association. But one cannot forget that half a million pets are dumped every year in Germany alone. A large percentage of these are cats that go feral when they live outside and many wild animals fall victim to the ones that survive. Defending game from damage is a legal duty of the hunting community.

So if the cat got it from eating a bird and the bird got it from eating a fish and the fish a worm... who is next up on the worm/bird/cat flu chain of death?

Who eats cats?

Alf's biggrin.gif

But is possible that cats can spread it to other cats,Dogs, Even Humans just by contact (Licking)
or Prolonged Proximity..
Crawlie
Dogs.

Well, apart from Minipup who is actually smaller than most cats
