Question: Just out of interest, what with Germany being so rubbish and all, why do you choose to live here? Or isn't it through choice?

We've been through the "if you don't like, why are you here" thing on TT a few times. It's the beer of course.

Jimbo, I'm with you son, shopping in London is incomparable - but...and there is a but...there is MUCH less weissbier in London than here. However painful it may be to shop in Munich, where there is such a void of choice that you have to resort to petty chit chat with the owner about what year their business was founded in, you can get bottle of beer at a maximum of 50m intervals. Sorry mate, but thats a very strong point. Albeit one not mentioned in that poncy article. Resting your achy legs in a church my arse, two words - ZUR BREZEN.
Jimbo
Well, my detailed research has revealed that iPod Nanos are about £6 cheaper in Germany than over here.
I know Germany fairly well, and I've been shopping in Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich and Bonn. And London has them all beaten hands down. Bluewater shopping centre is, in my opinion, King for the average bit of shopping. Loads of choice, all undercover, and actually has some OK restaurants.

I always found Munich shopping for clothes to be incredibly frustrating and so hardly ever bought clothes from MUC whilst I lived there.

EDIT: Good point though Don. Munich is great if you're shopping for beer.
grazzenger
just out of interest, anyone been to riem arcade? isn't that supposed to be pretty extensive?

If Zur Brezen isn't a church, I don't know what is.

So, after taking krout tax into account, you'd be better off living in Germany if you wanted to buy an ipod nano, but only if you earnt less than about 20 quid a year.

Fair comment. And especially understandable if you're from London. wink.gif But I'm assuming you don't send beer back for having a head on it here. wink.gif
BTW Mine's a dunkles Weißbier!

::sigh::

The beer is about the only thing I *do* miss about Britain.

Yes, I mentioned it earlier! tongue.gif

The ONLY down side I see is that there is a bit of an exposed walk from Messestadt West station to the centre. which is shit in the rain.

There is C&A, K&L, S Olivier, esprit, H&M, WMF 2 supermarket, 101 other little shopsm, couple of sportswear stores and a Karstadt I think.

Reccomend it to anyone who lives along the U2: Centre, GBV, Au, Giesing, Berg am Laim, Trudering.

Reim Shopping Arcade is just Neuhauserstr covered! Same Crap shops with TeenieBoppers spending Daddies money.

I usually hate shopping centres but I prefer it to Kaufingerstrasse despite being able to see the Dom from the corner of the mnext street. Fewer knackers in from the country. cool.gif
grazzenger
ideal for us erdingers then who just want some nice, bland regular clothes without too much hassle wink.gif
Jimbo
C&A. Does it have C&A?
MonksTown
Yeah C&A is there. Great undies, bought a load on Saturday but the selection not quite as wide as in town.

"Arcarden" is a chain of shopping centres. They've one in Regensburg attached to the Hbf there.
My "mother-in-law" is lives in R and I've been in the centre a few times. It's Ok, very Oberpfalz mind. wink.gif

@Don - shopping in Munich is shit. Shopping in London isn't. It's that fucking simple. I know I'm a Londoner and you can accuse me of bias if you want, but I've got ten times the choice in nearly any good you care to mention and for me choice is THE most important thing (assuming quality on most goods (that I buy)is the same wherever you go.

Mate. I'm wot I am too ya'know. Shoppin' up The Smoke is just as effin' shit. Once did West End shoe shoppin' with me ex-missus and two dopey blondes in for the weekend from Bielefeld. Way back in history there was an omission between the writin' and printin' of a manuscript. Dante's last, and 28th level of Hell should have explained shoe shoppin' up West with three birds who don't know what they want. Purgatory mucker, purgatory.

What I like about shoppin' in Munich is that the missus does most of it. biggrin.gif

So if you are... how do I say... a little wider in the arse and are looking for new knickers, then head to the C&A in town.
MonksTown
Wide selection as in a lot of choice, not the size of my arse! tongue.gif
Which since I go to the gym reguarly looks fantastic thankyou! biggrin.gif
