But they were very nice glasses.
Unfortunately the only thing I have to prove that I was there is still a bruised coccyx.
Editor Bob
Previous three TT cross-country ski trips were all good. See the relevant postings: 18.Dec - 08.Jan - 15.Jan

The next trip will be Sunday - 29.Jan.2006. Destination is as yet undecided but if you're interested in joining, make a date in your diary and check this posting later in the week.

Start time will be shortly before 8am, meeting at the Hauptbahnhof, taking either the BOB train or a DB regional line and sharing the group tickets - typical cost €5 to €10 per person, return.

Skiing will be classical cross-country. Beginners welcome. You don't need to have done x-country before - see related discussion: just strap on and go - nor need your own skis. Learning is easy and ski hire costs about €10 to €15.

Weather forecasts are "sunny spells, temperatures around zero"

butterbean
there is an increasing use of the phrase "strap on" in your posts, sir, that I am beginning to find disturbing... wink.gif
boomtown_rat
pleased kitkat's and my (so to speak) catchphrase has been put to good use smile.gif
butterbean
well I suppose that makes sense - nobody likes to strap on alone.
ami_tom
count me in... biggrin.gif
ami_tom
I must say that the last trip - 18 km - was not really for beginners, at least if they wanted to stay with the group all the way to the restaurant. next time we could possibly split up into 2 groups based on how fast/far people want to go.
Editor Bob
I can't decide which particular resort to hit. So let's just say:

BOB direction Bayerischzell - train leaves at 7.42am

Meet 7.30am at the start of platform 34.

Once on the train we can decide one of:

Fischbachau
Bayerischzell
Jachenau

I think Jachenau would be the most scenic. Problem is, there's only one bus back at the end of the day, and it's at 15.45. We'd have to be able to guarantee catching that. Which may not be a problem, actually.

I'd be game for Bayerischzell again, even though we did that just before Christmas.

So. 7.30am. Post here if you're gonna be there.

I'll probably[1] be there, I'll listen for the collection of English speaking peeps.

[1] Not the most helpful answer, but it's very early in the morning for a Sunday...
MunichNeil
Hi all,

this sounds like fun so my girlfriend and I will come along. I am a complete beginner to skiing by the way so I hope I make the last bus at 15:45 wink.gif
Editor Bob
Hi Neil, sounds good.

So we have...

Definites: ami_tom, Small Town Boy, Bertie Wooster, myself + two non-TT'ers, Munich Neil + 1 = 8
Possibles: Hippo, Gen, Spudbury, Stranger = 4

Total 8 to 12 people. Don't buy your rail tickets. I'll get two or three Bayern tickets (€25 per ticket) and we'll split the cost.

Anyone else want to join? If so, be sure to make yourself heard in advance.

7.30am at the end of the platform then. Don't be late. Someone missed the train by 30 seconds last time. Getting out of bed at 6.45am on a Sunday is bad enough - to then miss the train is even worse. rolleyes.gif
Gen
I'm really really thinking about it and will count myself as a strong possible. Would I be the only girl? Not that I mind of course.
Editor Bob
One of my non-TT'ers is a grrl. And I believe that Neil's girlfriend is too.
Small Town Boy
I will also be there. I'm not a complete beginner, but have yet to master going up or down any incline without falling down.

See you tomorrow, bright and early.
Gen
ah right, missed the girlfriend bit, only saw the +1. Ahem. So I'm going to the cinema double feature of Chicken Little 3d and Wallace and Gromit, not sure if I will make the train tomorrow, but yeah, I'm going to try.
Bertie Wooster
I am comig too. Never been to Bayrischzell but people say it´s good for CC skiing.

Ralf
ami_tom
"the platform" ... that's gleis 34 or so, right?
and we do have to go somewhere where they rent skiis - cool.gif
Bertie Wooster
Yep, that should be it. There´s also a counter where the BOB sells tickets close by.
Stranger
Put me down as a strong possible. Will jump on at donnersbergerbrücke again should I make it.

I agree. It happened to me this morning. D´oh!
Well, I guess there´ll be a next time, won´t there?
MunichNeil
Hi,

sincere apologies that we did not make it. My girlfriend (Saskia) has come done with flu symptoms late last night and has a double shift tomorrow so we thought it best to sit this one out. We even got up at 6:45 wacko.gif but there was no improvement

Anyway we will be along for the next one!

Hope ye have fun!
Neil
Gen
it was great again. Thanks Bob!
Small Town Boy
Yep, that was fun. Thanks EB.
Editor Bob
Yep. Good trip. We did some skiing as well, honest.

Goofball
are you organizing a trip again maybe this weekend, the 5th of Feb? me and my friend would love to join as we have never done this and sounds like fun.
krbehnke
Hi, I read something last weekend about a Langlauf/cross country ski trip. Is anyone interested in going this Sun (Feb5). Myself and a friend are interested in going but have never been before so we would like to tag along with someone who knows what they are doing. P.S. We are quick learners wink.gif
Small Town Boy
Someone posted Cross-country skiing day trip - Sunday 29.Jan.2006 to say they were interested in some cross-country skiing this weekend, unless that is the friend you were talking about. I might be interested myself, although I'm in no position to teach anyone else, I'm afraid!
cabridelle
yeah, I'd be up for one this sunday too :-) never been yet in germany...
krbehnke
Myself and a friend would also like to join (never been in Germany or to a Toytown meeting).
cabridelle
Sounds like *someone* better take this excited crowd out for a day in the snow :-)
Editor Bob
I won't be organising one this coming Sunday - 05.Feb.2006. But if someone else wants to, please go ahead. Pick a destination. Plan the start time. And post a new topic. Easy. Anyone could do it, including newcomers.
krbehnke
I posted that a friend and I were interested in going this Sun. but now we have decided on Sat. because the weather is supposed to be better. Anyone is welcome to join us. Any suggestions on a place with well marked trails and easy access from the Bahn?
cabridelle
Hey, I'd be up for it still. I think I got the stomach flu, but I'm hoping it will go away by Saturday... I don't really know the places either, but to be safe maybe we should choose a destination that the cross-country ski people already went to (like Lenggries). EB, is that easily accessible from the bahn and does it have well marked trails?
Malcolm Spudbury
In Lenggries you have to get a bus up to the ski area. However the bus stop is right next to the train station, and it drops you off right by where the trails start. The driver will announce the stop for "langlaufer".

The trails are well-marked.
krbehnke
Lenggries sounds good. We can all meet at HbH in front of the flower shop (near where they sell the tickets) at 8:00.
Editor Bob
Which train do you intend to get?

The BOB goes to Lengries at 8.02 and again at 8.42.

Timetables: http://www.bayerischeoberlandbahn.de/

Meeting at 8.00 will be too late if you intend to get the 8.02, but too early if you're getting the 8.42.

If you want the 8.02, and that's the one I'd recommend, then I suggest you meet at the end of the platform (number 34) at 7.50. There is a ticket machine on the platform.

I would also recommend that at least one of you posts a cell phone number to assist meeting-up on the day.

But do what you like. I can't make this one myself I'm afraid.
cabridelle
How much is the bus?

I'm up for it, I like that the leaving time is later than 7am :-)
Let's just hope I feel better by then.
Editor Bob
You mean the bus from Lengries rail station to the ski-trails? It's covered by your BOB ticket. It's only a five minute ride anyway. You could walk it in 15 minutes.
Small Town Boy
Pre-empting the next question, there's a ski hire place right where the loipen start from. Cost was €10 two years ago. Might still be up for this one.
Frederick Trotville
This all looks well disorganised.
What you need is someone anally retentive enough to create a registration form. Like this one.
Garish colours optional.
Gen
Hey I'm going to go with Julian I think! I've been wanting to meet that guy, and the trip to Kitzbühel sounds good. Non-smoking and no beginners!
Goofball
Hi Everyone,

let's all meet up at the Blumenladen in Hauptbahnhof at 7:45am. Kim and I will buy the Bayern ticket and will just split the cost. We will take the 8:02 BOB.

Feb. 04, Saturday
München Hbf Gleis 34- 04.02.06 ab 08:02 BOB86827 Bayerische Oberlandbahn

An Lenggries 09:08 -Gleis 1

We need to know who exactly is coming with us. Here's kim's no. 0172-1333175 .
Editor Bob
The BOB ticket costs €19 and covers five people.

The Bayern Ticket costs €25 and also covers five people. But it's not valid on the BOB, is it? Dunno.
Malcolm Spudbury

Pre-empting the next question, there's a ski hire place right where the loipen start from. Cost was €10 two years ago.

When we were in Lenggries last month it was €14 for skis, poles, and shoes.

Don't forget to take some form of ID because you'll need to leave it as deposit on the rental.
krbehnke
Right then, we´ll buy the BOB ticket and take the 8:02 train from Gleis34. I´m glad Editor Bob knows what´s going on since the rest of us are not as organized smile.gif
zimmer
€14 is cheap as I used to rent for more than €20 (not in Lenggries). Or, is there a difference in price for cross-country & downhill skis?
Malcolm Spudbury
I don't know how rental prices compare for cross-country vs. downhill, but at €14 for the cross-country kit Lenggreis was more expensive than Oberammergau and Bayrischzell, where it was €10 and €11 respectively.
Gen
yes, xcountry renting is way cheaper.
cabridelle
Ok goofball, I'm in. I'm feeling much better today. See you guys tomorrow morning!
I am 85% sure annieabroad is coming too, but I'll let her confirm.
Editor Bob
Last minute notice on this one...

Trip to Fischbachau travelling with the Bayerisch Oberlandbahn (BOB).

Sunday 26.Feb.2006
Meet @ Hauptbahnhof at 7.30am
Train leaves at 7.42
Don't buy a ticket. Just turn up and then we'll share one or two of the BOB group tickets. Tickets are €19 in total and cover 5 people. We split the tickets according to how many people show. It's usually less than €5 each.

Usual procedure: arrive in the village around 9am. Hire skis for those who need to - cost circa €13 for skis, boots, and poles. Ski for a couple of hours. Stop for a long lunch. Ski some more. Take the BOB back to Munich around 4 or 5pm. Back home for 7pm-ish.

All comers welcome. Post here so that we know to expect you.

Currently there are three of us, myself included.
