Wood yards - alternatives to OBI & Toom etc.

Where to buy wood for carpentry tasks

Again, the commercialised outlets have failed me.

I am looking for good wood for carpentry tasks and was wondering if anyone knows of any good wood shops/wood yards within public transport reach.

In particular, what I am currently failing to find is good cuts of wood for tabletops and bench tops, legs etc. I have found some 'ok' stuff in the likes of OBI and Toom but I feel they are likely way overfinished/overpriced for my needs so would like to find an alternative. Pikea also has finished surface tops but again they are over finished and overpriced.

I am not yet looking for fancy or exotic woods, pine or something else similar will be fine, I just need reasonable quality, reasonable strength at non-outrageous prices.

Thanks,

Praktiker might help you.

I had to get wood to support my couch/Bed-( peice was broken), and I took the measurements to OBI and they cut the wood to the exact measurments I needed, at no extra cost. So, I might give them a try again. They do have a good selection of woods and sizes and shapes. (It was easy to carry on the bus)

Ok, when I said OBI/Toom etc I meant there too. I was not clear, sorry smile.gif

Those places do indeed have a vast selection of wood, but just not what I am after.

Woodyards back home were always better than these kinds of places so was just kinda hoping there was something similar here smile.gif

There is a wood yard on the Corner of Rosenheimerstr and Orleans, just up the road from Ostbahnhof. Its quite large. But I don't know if they cut there too.

Viagara will help.

@ Eurovol. Did it need the extra punchline?

There's a wood yard in Freising, about a 10-minute walk from the station. Obviously that's a bit of a way from central Munich, but you can call first to see if they have what you want:

HOLZ KÖNIG GmbH
Erdinger Str. 45,

You might try Baywa. They're more building materials but they may have what you're looking for.
