I will be in Munich, September and hoping to visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the day for some walking and sights

I had a look at the local website and the area looks really nice

Is it easy to get to by train from the centre of Munich ?

Can any 1 recommend any speific parts to see and do while there ?

Read some of these links for an overview and if you have more questions afterwards then fire ahead.

The links include lots of info on getting there from Munich and things to do once you're there.

If you looked at the website already, how did you miss this?

I was there some weeks ago... you can check some panoramas here: http://www.rbrusu.com/blog.php?date=2006-2-4 .

It's a very nice place, and I would definitely go up with the zugspitzbahn.

Cheers,
Radu.

Both G and P have nice little centres which are worth a small stroll through. The olympic stadium is a sight as well, as well as being a good starting point for walks (or cable car) up to Eckbauer (nice view to Zugspitze from a restaurant/bar). The 'klamms' (gorges) in the area are also spectacular to walk through (partnachklamm and höllertalklamm - there is a thread on TT about partnachklamm). September is usually a very nice time of the year to be up there - still nice and warm

It's a great view on a sunny day. The only thing I would say is don't go to the hotel eisbee, next to where you get the lift from for lunch. The food was truely awful and expensive!

Head down to Mittenwald. Nicer scenery, better walking, tastier beer smile.gif
