As for the one before that - we had hail stones that ended up half way across the day room!
It seems that here in Bavaria, we can't have sunny without drippy.

Damn, dude! Ya just don't stop! I leave for one week and already you're crocheting! What's next? You realize, I fully expect to see some Fair Isle on your needles when I get back...
Elemmaciltur

TalksToStrangers: Um...no, there won't be any fair isle just yet...however, these are my next two projects, the second of which I'm hooking already (still can't decide whether I want to modify the first project or not, i.e. more cables, other kinds of cables, bobbles, sans pockets, etc. I'll have to swatch it first) :

Okay, since

Regan's actually in town or not, if not, I'll be coming around to your place. Will have to ring
Escobar up and tell them we're not coming today...

Notice to everyone who might want to join.

regan, There were only just I and
Abra last night and we were at
Chook's place. 'Twas very lovely.
Yes, if there are more than 2 people this Sunday, we'll be at
Escobar. So, please, peeps, who're coming this Sunday?
And here's an FO, the Short 'n Sweet Bolero I crocheted (now I need someone to model it for me):

I love reading the 'S&B' threads, it sounds like you have a lot of fun! Would it be okay for a totally knitting-newbie to join you please? I am pretty crafty, love making cards, used to do cross stitch and made a lot of jewellery when I was younger. I have never knitted but would like to learn, and the
wine consumption and chat sounds, and wine (did I say that?!) are just my thing!
I am going back to UK next week so will go to the craft store and ask what needles are recommended for learning to knit. Crocheting also sounds like fun (I'm very impressed by your photos!), so I will get myself kitted out. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should get please?
laura_k
Jul 7 2006, 10:56 am
Lucy I've got some needles you can have as well as some spare wool. That is provided you pass the entrance exams.
I will be there this sunday and bringing a friend. I'm pretty sure she doesn't like knitting, but she definitely drinks, so I'm sure we'll all have something in common.
Do they know who's playing in the final yet? (Is that the most ignorant question of the year?) It's france and someone, right?
Elemmaciltur
Jul 7 2006, 10:58 am
LucyK, hey, welcome! And great that you would like to join up. If you want, try coming to
Escobar this Sunday 5 p.m. I'll bring something along for you to try out. If you want to get your own kit, I'd suggest you gest some kind of worsted-weight or bulky yarn and big sized needles, so that your first project will be a quick knit up...Like I said, worsted-weight yarn and probably 5 mm or 6 mm knitting needles. Try get wool yarn (unless you're allergic), because it's stretchy and nice to knit with.
Hope to see you this Sunday. Anymore questions just post here or PM and one of us will answer! And BTW, thank you for your compliments on my work.
Laura_k, it's France vs. Italy...and I'm cheering for France to kick Italy's butt...just for revenge.
LucyK
Jul 7 2006, 11:08 am
Thank you both, that's really kind to loan me some needles. I will get some of my own after I've given it a go though, as I'm sure I will need lots of practise at home!! Thanks for the hints on what to buy.
Not sure if I can make this Sunday, will have to check plans with hubby and post if I can make it. I'm going back to Uk next week, but will join you the week after, if that's okay?
@ Laura_k - I hope your friend has fun, even if she's not sure about knitting. Reading the thread,
wine sounds like a close second in priority so I'm sure she'll be fine!
Entrance exam... sounds scary!

(agree - come on France!!)

Escobar weblink and spotted the 'all day Sunday happy hour'... !!
Total coincidence to the choice of venue, I'm sure!

Jul 7 2006, 11:15 am
Hey Lucy,
I'd suggest you choose something you want to make, like a scarf in a simple rib pattern for example. Then you pick some yarn that you like, and then the needles the yarn calls for (yarn shop staff will help you with that, in case you go there on your own. Or one of us might help you). I find it much more rewarding to start knitting with a project, because then you have a goal as opposed to knitting a trial swatch. And scarves are always easy to start with!
And don't be scared about the entrance exams... it's more like finding our table, and then not be scared off by the bitchin'
LucyK
Jul 7 2006, 11:21 am
Can I presume that other than the clack of knitting needles, the table can be identified by empty cocktail glasses and gossiping? Sounds like I'll fit right in!

Might need practise on the bitching though...
Good idea to get a scarf pattern to follow, hopefully I will have learned enough to finish it before winter!

You'd better come, tina p, i'm starting to forget what you look like! You're the naked one , right?
Lucy k you can keep the needles i have too many anyway.
Christ i wish it would either stop raining or i could go home and put my pyjamas on. Yay sunday will be cool though! Allez les bleus!

Jul 7 2006, 7:52 pm
Just a quick hi from Dublin. It's been raining in Munich? I somehow seem to have lucked out to miss that, it's been relatively nice here. Anyway, wanted to tell Lucy, hi and I have a whole lot of yarn from the flea market that I got with Abra, and you're welcome to to have a look to see if you want any. Not sure any of it's worsted weight, but if you think you'd like something for a future project – this offer goes out to everyone else too of course. Alright, camera battery is charged, time to head back out again.

Jul 9 2006, 9:01 am

are the s&b ladies meeting this wednesday?
Elemmaciltur
Jul 10 2006, 10:27 am
Tamarita, I supposed so, but we're not sure yet about where we're meeting up. (Oh, and BTW, there aren't only loidies there)
Elemmaciltur
Jul 10 2006, 11:11 am
Ah...we could do it at my place on this Wednesday...but as we all know, my place is tiny. Another choice is: There's a new Italian place opened up just across from where I live and they have this huge outside area you could sit. I could ask them for this Wednesday. I've never been there yet though.
Another suggestion is, if it's nice, then we could go somewhere along the
Isar and go to Gast if the weather starts to turn bad.
What do you think?
chook
Jul 10 2006, 2:03 pm
Along the
Isar sounds lovely, but according to the weather reports we are supposed to be having storms on Wednesday evening.

The Italian place sounds good too, otherwise I'm happy to offer my place again - Lucie didn't seem to mind last time.
Elemmaciltur
Jul 10 2006, 4:21 pm
I checked out the price of the food at the Italian place...and it's
extremely pricey (i.e. ranging from about EUR 7,90 for Antipasti to about EUR 17 for a main dish...they don't even show the drink menu...so, I don't know about it).
Okay, so we have a choice of my place,
laura_k's and
chook's. I myself would vote for
chook's place, coz it's spacey.

As long as Lucie and your hubby are alright with it.

This is called Life's Pleasures. I have done the top left hand corner. Only 15/16 of the project left to go!!!

And...

This one is called Blessing. Again, I have done the top left hand corner. Only problem, I did it in the wrong direction on my material and have to start ALL OVER AGAIN! I put it on my material as if the picture was horizontal, and it is vertical, so it the rest won't fit on the material this way. Oh well, it is gorgeous anyway!
